On that corner - which on SS1 was the first corner of the whole rally Dutch gentlemen driver Kees Burger had a double roll in Subaru, roll cage dameged. Then again cars after first 20 ran with terrible long intervals - which of course was due to ambulance on SS1. Also, the number of retirements was huge - 45 out of 100 and many of them were top runners: Nikara, Salo, Ketomäki, Rantanen, Hiltunen; Lappi, Mänty, Hautamäki, Kinnunen. Hautamäki had a good chance to take the lead on 2WD, as well as Mänty had a great chance to take "home victory" - alas but no. A pacenote error apparently caused victory for Joonas Lindroos, however the championships are very much open for the last round which of course is good.
Pinch of salt for the rally was of course Jari-Matti Latvala in an Escort MkII. Saw him on SS1 and SS4 (he missed half of SS2 and SS3 for clutch problems) and he wasn't saving the car - definitely most spectacular driving of the day.
I was spectating (Historic) Rally of 1000 Lakes in Jyväskylä area but phones rang... Kinnunen's Civic was pretty much totalled? Apparently there was a place in somewhere on SS 1, Lappi and Kinnunen off at the same place?
He broke the gearbox two years ago in Lahti and last year he broke it in the tests... JM always 110% :DQuote:

But Longhi is fastest on stages 2 & 3 coming back at 3,4 sec of Turk for overall lead.
