Dildo, Newfoundland and Labrador.
I thought Dildo was near French Lick, o
or am I thinking of Phuket?
Is that where the 'Horny Devil" lizard lives?
It's been a week... I don't know if anyone will get this.
I think that it's this barn:

Punkeydoodles Corners, Ontario, Canada... The highest numbered address in the world?
Someone else can take over... I just wanted to see Punkeydoodles Corners in this thread :D
Let's continue.
What and where is this?
That is where freaking' Rapunzel let down your golden hair?
Not a fairy tale land.
And not Germany either.
Aiguihle, in central France. The rock is an ancient volcanic plug. If I remember it is the Church of St Mark (or Saint Micheael)?
Anfield, you really know all the answers.....
It's your turn now.
The world fasinates me, and I organise and run trivia/quiz nights, so I am always looking for weird things to add into them - much like this...

what is this, where is it and can you explain why it is pink? - hint it is a natural lake, and not the result of any industry.
It's pink because it's a girl?
Or because it's filled with tiny crustaceans? I have no idea where it is.
as far as I know it's not a girl (let me know how you can tell :)). It is not tiny crustaceans that make it pink, but you are kind of on the right track.
Is it some kind of algae?
I have a feeling it is some kind of bacteria that exists in the lake. Can't remember why. Maybe due to a high mineral level or something.
As for where. Can't think right now.
It is thought to be due to an unusual algae that lives in the lake in large numbers, it is completely harmless, but it makes the lake look kinda cool (in a pinkish girly sort of way). The lake is called Lake Hillier and is located on a small island off the south coast of Western Australia.
Take it away Storm.
It's a bunch of freakin' Flamingos

Where is this? bonus for what book features this prominently ?
Okay, let's get rid of the obvious answer first.
Somewhere in South America (Venezuela?), and the book is The Lost World by Doyle?
:dozey:
no and no
South East Asia - maybe Cambodia
Great question Sorm. Too bad I had to look it up
anfield no&no. But if I was betting I had money on you to get the answer incl the bonus q ;)
Indeed a good Q, but I have no idea as to the answer.
Shot in the dark: perhaps somewhere in Africa? DRC?
If it was in Europe or the Pacific, then maybe...
The problem I have is the photo is way small and I can't make out the detail (getting old and blind :)).
I will come up with more excuses later
The jungle still looks asian to me (judging by the yellow-green colour), maybe India or Sri Lanka?
It looks similar to the backdrop for an old Simon LeBon music video, can't remeber what song, or where it was filmed though (so that's no real help)
If it does turn out to be Sri Lanka, then the book would most likely be written by Arthur C. Clarke
SriLanka it is.
If IIRC, Simon LeBon is the Duran Duran guy? then yes to that as well...the video was shot here.
the book? you got that in one too - The Fountains of Paradise by Clarke where this is the so-called demon rock.
The actual place is Lion's Rock or Sigiriya or Simhgiri in the middle of SL
I knew anfield would get this due to the sci-fi connection and being a geo wiz anyway :|
good stuff!
didn't really get the answer, had a vague idea and narrowed the location down to an area od about 1/7 total land mass of the Earth :). The only reason I guessed at Clarke was because he spent most of his writing life living in Sri Lanka
What is this and where is it?
http://www.shortstoryflashfictionsoc...-Blue-Hole.jpg
Is that the great blue hole off the coast of Belize?
why yes it is schmenke :)
I think it is an Island in the central Pacific, either part of Micronesia, Palau, or the Marshall group. Not too sure, as to significance, I am guessing at the lowest island above sea level?
.... or the Americans used it as a nuclear bomb test site?
Wasn't that Bikini atoll?
Yes, it's the most populous island in the Marshall Islands.
It's significance, at least what I was looking for, is that it's the most densely populated region of any US area, even more so than Manhattan.

Turkey? Milky Way too :p:
It is the Milky way, but not close to Turkey. The rock pillars have a specific name.
