Some people are thinking way too hard. Just think of the rules as if it were rallycross or dakar. It has to slightly resemble a streetcar, but there doesn't have to be a brand.

Well, there are side-by-sides, buggies, trucks and bikes besides the production and prototype cars in Dakar... and Rallycross doesn't have to worry about being road legal and is dying at world level. It's essentially the same sport as autocross with a joker lap and some tarmac; autocross is a growing sport and has cross carts as the promoted option for hitting the costs right.
This discussion is the identity of the rally sport under threat and question. The consequences of a rule change or not doing anything are huge.
car brands are producing more suvs and thats a fact... so they gotta move into that direction. power train will have to allow simple ICE on renewable fuel otherwise rallying is dead. then its a matter of having, idk, skoda and msport building rally2 inside bigger models... and hoping for more brands (because homologation) and builders to start partnerships focusing on rally. i dont think its an impossible thing. skoda, msport will probably be there. maybe going after stellantis to choose a brand and find a race partner (prodrive?). idk, at least for the whole rally2 program, so we can keep slowly updating this fórmula in more countries/national chanpionships.
A point missed for those interested is that engines have to come from production runs whether for Rally1 or 2, thus still a homologation step.

(skip to 3:43 or so, when they start to push a little.) boy, i find SUVs so ugly haha these old ones are better for the eye tho

Having different opinion about things and trying to improve smth aand
abracadabra sim-sala-ben.. bye.
Finally a guy who has the balls to say something
“When I took on this role, it was to serve the FIA’s members, not to serve power"
excellent comment by him. but theres no turning back now.
and the new fia president will probably be either as shitty as MBS ...or as shitty as MBS but more discreet. (idk which is worst)
