Yes, the surprising leader still leads, but can he stand the pressure? 4 stages to go.

Wasn´t any visible at last stage.
Anyway. Hekkila is a real finnish "sisudriver". Will be a big star if he continues like this.
Sisu driver? :)

0.1s between Paddon and Ostberg again. Amazing.
Luck of the Irish for Breen ! He could've thrown away the Portuguese Championship win there.
Sisu is a mental state the finns have https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisu
Good times from Virves today
Great time by Heikkila & holding the lead !
It´s a surprise that Heikkilä is able to fight for the win, because he is driving first time in Portugal. Paddon and Østberg have a huge advantage on the last stage, because that Fafe stage is every year in the WRC event.
Heikkilä´s speed is not a surprise, because Mikko was beating reigning WRC2 Champion Emil Lindholm last year in the Finnish Championship. The battle was very tight during the whole season. Heikkilä was 0,4 s faster than Lindholm on the last event and won the title.
Guys fighting for the win, then there is WRC driver Breen, and then there is rookie Virves with Ford taking 2nd stage win in row. Epic!
Only leg 2, before PS:
1. Breen
2. Paddon +5.6
3. Virves +10.2
4. Heikkilä +20.0
5. Ostberg +23.5
If Heikkilä is going to win the rally (I hope so) but without winning powerstage, he is going to "do Tänak" (from rally sweden) - winning the rally with winning only one stage during the rally.
What an improvement in his times today. Pity we didn't hear from him to see why. Maybe he just got the set-up right.
Ostberg just settled for 3rd.
Traditional Finnish luck!
How were the splits before the puncture?
That's so cruel.
Huge respect for Heikkilä for the interview. Keeping it calm and together like a proper Finn.
And Virves stole point from Sesks and Ostberg with 4th time on PS (at the moment).
Conclusion is - ERC is actually nice to follow with so competitive line-up.
Nice Rally! :
1. Why did HeikkilĀ change tyre so close to finish ? Definetly would have lost less in would have continued.
2. Very happy to see my countryman Martins Sesks being capable to set top times - it shows that he has real speed an has future potential.
3. ERC has grown so much and this season will be so interesting.
4. I predict some more big names to appear for selected events.
5. Ford Fiesta rally 2 is crap, but Virves shows otherwise - - or if not, then Virves is megatalentated future superstar , which I do not believe.
6. Pontus Tidemand career is over. No sighns of something coming. He ad everything - huge expierence, ok car - and results are just not there.
7. ERC look very very good at he moment. I predict Loeb in Ford rally2 appear in ERC.
8. Very excited for Paddon - speed is still there.
9. Heikkilā - definetly some good results in the future are coming.
10. New Skoda kinnda the same as old skoda - not much better. maybe on tarmac, let's wait and see.
Superb day from Virves!
Not a bad effort from Hayden and JK. This being their first event since the APRC final round in Australia last year A lot of happy people in NZ just waking up to the news
The new Skoda is by design made to be better than old one one fast gravel/snow and smooth tarmac. It has shown as much in Monte and Sweden.
The big question is if then is worse on medium/slow gravel and different tarmac types.
Imo this is the first rally that could give some answers and my read is same as yours. It is not significantly faster (yet?). Which is good for the competition.
Paddon doing very well, more than expected, but driver of the rally is Heikkilä. No doubt. Cool, mature, that special finnish accent/voice talking Alénenglish.
It´s all settled for an interesting career.
