His best finish on Monte after all these years and rallywins has been a 5th place until this week, clearly his weakest rally.Quote:

Yes Loeb with his speed and right tirechoices was far ahead... as has been the case for quite a few years in Monte.
All in all very good performance from Petter.
So, manufacturers points after MC (note that points shown in Eurosport were incorrect, they also added PS points to the teams and did not took into account the privateers )
1 Citroen 37
2 Mini 26
3 M-sport 16
4 Ford 15
5 Armindo Araujo WRT 4
6 Palmeirinha 2
M-Sport is 1 point ahead of Ford :-)
I am not necessarily sure that he would be a "force", but I think he would be competitive everywhere he went, unlike Henning Solberg and Matthew Wilson, for example. As far as expecting more from him, you have to bear in mind he is almost 50 years old, and hasnt been near WRC machinery for years. I would love to see him back in the WRC this year.Quote:

My review of MC :
- very disappointed by JML... he crashed, once again, he really needs to understand that he has to finish the rallies... what's your point of view? it really starts to upset me actually! ford will never be manufacturer champ with him to be honest...
- shame that ogier crashed, it would have been nice to see what position he would end up at the end of the rally. One good thing is he is not in the S2000 to just improve his pace note, he was on maximum attack as you can see on the crash video. So it looks good for the rest of the season, really look forward to see what he will do next.
- Campana, did very well I personally think.
- Shame that nobody did a "special thing" for the spectator at the turini. I was expecting delecour to do a donuts or something like that... This is missing in the modern wrc unfortunately...
So overall, a bit disappointed that the rally was over after ss4...
Let's think about sweden now!
Have fun, see ya dudes.
My 3 days rally went very well and i was again amazed by the number of fans from various nationalities following the event, i think it's unique in the calendar.
The Turini was exciting at night despite the lack of snow, the cars quickly jumped the col at full speed.
Fantastic scennery and atmosphere, you really have to be there for the engines sound amplified by the rocks, it's evil.
Waiting and walking onto the next stage, the quest for the ultimate best watching location, sharing "vin chaud", endless discussions with rally freaks, rally action... Great moments in life.
Highlights from Rallye Monte-Carlo 2012. Nicely done i should say.
So I'm back in Prague. Some my thoughts after four consecutive years in RMC...
It was really long event. I can't complain about too little stages per day because You can hardly see more as a spectator especially if You want to watch all cars somewhere out of the huge crowds (at least kilometer from crossroads). It was actually easier from last editions, no waking up at five etc...
Sometimes it was really nice, sometimes disappointing. Definitely not the most spectacular edition of those I visited. That's the 2010 for me. In terms of atmosphere I find previous years better in some way (although there was more spectators generally). As it's my personal feeling it definitely has something to do that the fight on the very top was without those I support (I admit I was doing RMC supporting Škoda crews in previous years). This time I wasn't in Turini but from what I could see it lost something due to more strict spectator regulation and absolutely dry surface. I'm actually quite happy to go to Col St. Roch on SS Lantosque-Luceram instead. All those fires around the never-ending hairpins in the cliffs is something special. We counted 114 fires from one spot!
Some of You complained about the huge time gaps. You are right but look at the other side of the coin. RMC had an average length of a stage well over 20 km which is more than any other event. In this type of roads the time gaps are big over such distance. The results are looking actually pretty old-stylish with gaps in minutes. Would it be better to have forty ten kilometers long stages? I don't think so but some of You would be happy to have drivers separated by seconds not minutes.
All this stages should be in three days event.
The gamble with the tires added also some seconds/minutes to the time gaps.

I must admit I am more than a little disappointed with the Motors TV and Eurosport highlights show for each day. In a >30 minute show (considering ad breaks) to have a third to a half of the show dedicated to previous day/days action, it left little room for actual highlights from any given day. There was prolonged periods of the top 4 or 5 drivers, lingering on 3 to 4 sequences of shots, going through the stages. However you never got to see much further down the order. If a car is in the top 10, they deserve at least a 5 to 10 shot in action. Hardly saw Henning or Wilson, Aroujo & Nobre in the WRC cars, let alone a mention of P.G. in his Proton or Abbring in the S2000 cars, I mean there was only 3 of them for most of the event, how hard could it have been to show a quick shot.
The main point of this rant is not just demand variety in the drivers so far as coverage goes. My point is that it is the media coverage that will satisfy the sponsors for their drivers. No point is spending X amount of Euros on a campaign if it is not going to get some TV time in front of the millions of fans watching. So while it is good to celebrate the efforts of the top drivers, but with out supporting the others drivers competing in the championship, you will lose them and thus will have no championship at all.
So please, the grand powers that be, limit the reviews to 3 to 6 minutes maximum and that can give you time to show a passing shot of Driver X and help him keep his sponsor further into 2012 and beyond. Even if it during the cuts to ad breaks, rather than looking down a misty mountain valley. The simulcam shots were nice but only use it once or twice with a relevant car battle, not three or four times plus an extra time with them all combined. Also there is no need to repeat the showing the maps of a stage, when it is exactly the same as the morning pass. Added up, some shots of the other drivers could have been included and it would have proven to have been just as entertaining, while providing the drivers with the exposure they need in these tough times.
If you watch Day 5 coverage, IT IS THE BEST. Review of first 4 days was done well, graphics and commentary I think.. still some mistakes but I also watched in FULL HD.
All except heavy metal music.
I am looking for good pictures of Campana. Anybody got any?
this any good? :pQuote:

Coverage of the sub-categories has long been a problem for WRC. Did they even show any last year on real tv? I saw some on WRC.COM but...
Hopefully we will get some live coverage this year and then the guys lower down will definitely get some coverage. Probably more from one stage than an entire rally normally.
His name is Araújo.
The MTV3 coverage didn’t have any reviews of previous days and if there was, it was very short. In short it went this way:
JML explaining the stages. Interviews of the drivers after each leg. Other interviews after the first leg of the day. More onboards compared to Eurosport.
Day 1:
Jaques Morelli explaining the tyre rules. He says that every car in a WRC rally can use 45 tyres????? Michelin have 84 different choices. He said that 36 soft tyres (S1), super soft tyres12 (SS1) and hard tyres 8 (H1), 20 tyres with studs and 8 tyres without studs. Three different tarmac tyres. Studded tyres had 240 studs.
Day2:
Interviews with Denis Giraudet and Francois Delecour.
Day 3:
Interviews with Toni Gardemeister and Jouni Ampuja who acted as gravel crew for PGA.
Day 4:
Interview with Tommi Mäkinen explaining Turini stage and some old footage. After the two first stages the interview with Tommi Mäkinern continues when he explains his Monte adventures. Interview with Yves Matton. Interview with Kim Vatanen. All the interviews about 8 last min.
Btw, Yves Matton said that when Citroen still had the both Sebastians, they were considering Mikko as the third driver but the as Yves said “we had to integrate the team”.
Day 5:
Day 4 night stages. Onboard of PGA when the car caught fire. Petter told in the interview that he won’t get a single point from the power stage. About 6 min. driving & onboards from power stage. Interviews with the team bosses. Interview with David Richards.
What a waste was that interview with David Richards. All the time I waited for Latva-Piikkilä to ask about Prodrive's financial situation and if they have chance to drive Meeke but nooooo, questions abouteach driver and milking compliments for Hirvonen :mark:
Interesting that they put the show together themselves but I presume using Eurosport footage from the stages and onboards?Quote:

Didn't see any onboard with camera behind the driver.
Why would they do that? Do Fnnish media have their heads in the sand as much as some of the forum members here?Quote:

Ogier crash onboard.
I can’t either see the point unless if Citroen sees him as an option to Ogier (crash prone) in some rallies and taking secure points for Citroen?Quote:

I don't know it either. Maybe because Finnwise the result of Monte Carlo was a total disappointment and they wanted to dig something good about it :dozey:Quote:

Hirvonen was really disappointing, you can't use the new car as an excuse, look how Petter went in a new car...
Actually he won 3 stages and a second place in the power stage = 14 pointsQuote:

I'm certainly not a fan of Hirvonen but I expect very strong season from him. He has a better developed car now, better engineers and teammate to take advices from, and is much more relaxed being the second driver in the team (which is important for his fragile mentality).
