#AskPaddon How about the clearly faster 2017 cars & safety? Will it not be over the edge? Keeping in mind what happened last Saturday.

The speed diff won't be so big that it causes concerns for safety. The cars are built strong and FIA pushing hard
@HaydenPaddon #askpaddon Scary moment for you & bad crash for @SLefebvreRallye. #WRC2017 cars are even faster! Are you worried? @OfficialWRC

Not at all. As drivers we understand the risks involved and personally the cars are not fast enough. More bhp =
Interestingly, Paddon has just tweeted that the seats make it difficult to put the cameras in the same place in the middle as it was in the past.
I guess this is to do with the additional side head restraints. Maybe there's better clearance in some cars compared to others.

Hayden Paddon Retweeted Jordi
On WRC+ there are several cars that now have this. It's more difficult now with the seats but I agree is betterHayden Paddon added,
Jordi @jordi_casale
@HaydenPaddon is it posible to put the con board cameras in the middle of the car? Like before... Will be much better for all
I find it hard to believe that in 2016 engineering cannot solve trivial problems like those Paddon mentions.
Edit:
My bad, the article was from last year.
M-Sport confirm Evans will be back in WRC before end of year
M-Sport team boss Malcolm Wilson has confirmed Elfyn Evans will return to the WRC before the end of this season.
Evans said last month after Rally Finland that he had no more scheduled events in the World Rally Championship, but on the back of his success in the British Rally Championship, the Welshman secured the title on the Ulster Rally last weekend after winning, Wilson has revealed the 27-year-old will run again at the top level - albeit in WRC2.
Evans still has a chance of winning this year's WRC2 title, although Teemu Suinen is only two points behind, and Esapekka Lappi has also closed - the gap down to 13 points - after winning last weekend's Rally Deutschland. Suinen and Lappi also both have two points' scoring events left, to Evans' one.
“They'll [Evans and co-driver Craig Parry] be back in the World Rally Championship before the end of the season," Wilson confirmed.
“We just need to assess the events and determine which will give them the best shot of securing another championship this year.”
Meanwhile, Evans said he was delighted to have secured the British Rally Championship title with one event remaining.
“It feels really good to win the BRC title in style but it was a difficult event and hard to concentrate on the job in hand. The rally was really tough, probably the hardest of the season with the weather changing all the time. To win the rally and the championship is very special, especially as it was 20 years since my father was champion,” he added.

Evans is not good enough, but still better investment than Ostberg.
true.
considering how small today's cameras can be, i just don't believe there is no place between the seats where they can put them.
they can fill f1 cars with camera's, but in a much more spacious car they can't find a spot to place a camera, thats just bullshit.

Who knows about next year. He certainly doesn't want to be back in WRC2. I'm sure he was hoping for a few full WRC outings this year. If Tanak does go to Toyota then we could potentially see Elfyn in that Dmack car I guess? I rate other drivers higher but he's in the top 15 drivers in the world IMO.

Finland's Esapekka Lappi has held talks with Toyota about a potential place in its new WRC programme next year.

The 25-year-old underlined his position as one of the sport's hottest young talents last weekend when he won the WRC 2 category at ADAC Rallye Deutschland with the Skoda Motorsport team.
It was his second consecutive WRC 2 victory and fuelled speculation that he was ready to take the step to the sport's top level in 2017.
After the rally, Lappi acknowledged that stories linking him to Toyota's new Finland-based WRC operation had some foundation.
"There are rumours, yes. I can say that I've never driven any WRC car, but I have been in the workshop. So that is where the rumours come from, I guess. I visited the Toyota workshops." he explained.
When asked whether he was talking to Toyota about a drive next year he said: "Yes."
Asked if this would be his hope next year, Lappi replied: "It is one option, let's say."
Lappi's nonchalant attitude to his title chances in this year's WRC 2 championship only added to the sense that his future was secure. "Everything is possible, but, to be honest, I am not thinking about it too much," he shrugged when asked about his title chances.
"I just want to do one event at a time and concentrate on that. No matter what the result is. I don’t think about the championship too much. If it comes, it comes, and if it doesn’t come, then I don’t care. It doesn’t change my future," he added.

Any news about Suninen? I think he should drive a WRC next year. A partial program maybe...
I listened to VF Bilsport motorsport podcast earlier today and Rally Sweden was given some fair amount of time.
Regarding RS the situation seems to be the same as last week, RS still have not accumulated enough guarantees of accommodation availability.
The podcasters, reporter Johan Hedlund and race driver Jan "Flash" Nilsson came to the conclusion that most of the rooms in the area of Torsby and
Sunne are likely to have already been "booked. The situation is likely to be the same in Sälen and Åre/Österund for the weeks around the time of RS,
sometimes rooms need to be booked 1-2' years in advance for certain weeks.
http://www.vf.se/sport/bilsport/moto...lytta%E2%80%9D
So if that is a correct assumption, where does that leave RS? They cannot continue to use Karlstad/southern Värmland since it isn't snow safe and
further North there are no accommodation available.
Interesting report from SMHI regarding snow depth and changes through the years. http://www.smhi.se/polopoly_fs/1.846...rologi_158.pdf
In large parts of Sweden the amount of days with a snow cover have decreased with between 10 and 30 days. in the RS area, the change is about -17 days/winter.
The comparison is how much it changed for the period 1990/91 – 2013/14 compared 1960/61 – 1989/90.
Lappi confirms his exit from Skoda. things starting to get moving now...

i understand the story is taken from motorsport news (credited below) which should be reliable.
Well I don't agree with that, at least not 100%. In my experience central Dalarna, like Falun, Leksand, Borlänge, Malung are far from snow safe.
Last winter that area didn't have any snow either or had very little snow during the Swedish rally. The mountains are usually snow safe
but there accommodations are already booked.

From VW:
"Management undergoes restructuring: Sven Smeets named Volkswagen Motorsport Director
Wolfsburg (29. August 2016). Volkswagen Motorsport has undergone a restructuring at management level: Sven Smeets (44) will take over as Volkswagen Motorsport Director on 01 September 2016. He succeeds Jost Capito (57), who is leaving the company to pursue a new professional challenge. Lukasz Urban (34) also takes over as Commercial Managing Director from Kirsten Zimmermann (44), who moves into a new management role at Volkswagen AG on 01 September 2016. At the same time, François-Xavier Demaison (47) as Technical Director and Dr. Donatus Wichelhaus (54) as Director of Engine Development move up into the Management Board of Volkswagen Motorsport."
Who will replace Demaison and Wichelhaus? Also i can't understand what kind of jurisdictions-role they will have on the management board of vw motorsport .Maybe they don't trust Smeets enough and put those two close to him for help?????????
Östberg will drive in the German (tarmac) rally Niedersachsen (9 & 10 september) with his own Ford Fiesta R5.
Rumors keep going on about an Andolfi debut in an R5 with the Hyundai i20 in Corsica.
My finger are crossed. Let's hope he gets the seat.
