It was clearly both, he did not want to be second driver again and probably got more money as well. Right choice for him and completely understandable for M-Sport as well. Who would prefer if M-Sport and Citroen are the only teams who want him for about two years now. And Citroen didn't want him at the end of 2016 (Toyota wanted him but they change their minds then when he turn them down). And didn't want him at the end of 2017 so badly..
