You could say that Kankkunen is not the best to teach how to drive on snow. You'd be right, he's simply best :) .

Yes, you drive with them on the long road sections. if it's on tarmac it's better not too exceed 80kph too often because the studs on hard tar will overheat easily and start moving in the rubber and glue which holds them. if you don't take proper care you may have trouble with your studs and lose them premature on the stages.

yes, provided the car is still above its minimum weight with no spare on board (one spare is permitted at weight checks)

Last year we drove a whole time behind the blue Mini of Sandell on a roadsection up to Hagfors Sprint. Each time he had the opportunity he drove into the snow, sometimes very close to the snowbanks. Only to safe his tyres. Included a picture of his tyres at the Time Control of Hagfors sprint, so after 3 Special Stages. Thanks for the picture to Bruyneeldsen ;)

thank you for sharing. Studs are in good condition, if they had 3 ss allready :)
