Jaguar Mk5 1951-54 Monte Carlo /Rac
I am researching the brief Rally career of the Jaguar 3.5 litre Mk5 car ( i own one ) A Mk5 came 3rd 1951 and 5th 1953 on the Monte, driven by Irishman Cecil Vard. ( Google "Cecil Vard Irish Rally" for a pic of Mk5 and Cecils Achievements )
Whilst not the fastest of cars its 3.5 litre pushrod engine produced 125 bhp / 200 lbs/ft Torque...it had excellent roadholding with 50/50 weight balance.
Info required on any of the below.....
In 1951 7 Mk5,s entered the Monte.. 6 from Glasgow and 1 from Madrid ..i am seeking info on car 227 a Mr Hole.... car 241 Reggie Tongue ( a famous Racing driver of the period )
The Spanish driver was Sig. E. Descals Juncusa with A. Rogue/Rivero. car 121.
1952 Car 90 D. Warwick / F Warwick.
!953 Car 136 H Harrop / T. Saxton... Manchester area ?
1954 Car 187 L.S. Norman / D. Farquarson Leicester area ?
Car 232 Handley / Lucas Dudley area ?
In Sweden in 1952 A. Mr Hagstom entered a Mk 5 on the Midnightsun car no 19 Regisration A 56985.....any knowledge on this out there ?
Any leads on info / living family members/ photos greatly Appreciated.
The Mk5,s legacy was Ronnie Adams winning the 1956 Monte with a Mk7 Jaguar....the Mk7 inherited the Mk5,s chassis...the Mk7 benefitting from the "New " 3.4 litre 165 bhp. Twin overhaed cam engine...
The Mk5,s Rallying in the UK and Monte was in the limelight of the success of the XK120 on Alpine and other Major events ( Not eligible for Monte ) and Jaguars Le Mans success,s of all of the 1950,s. ,, and the Mk5,s brief success,s have not been fully reported on....so any clues greatly appreciated.
Thanks
