Probably the amount of torque available in the "sweet spots", That kind of increse would probably go against the rules. Just what Toyota did before Finland.

and theoretically if it would be truth it will only mean their previous spec engine was weak.

Depending on the exact wording it might be that Loeb meant "starting" talent +ability to develop in that article. In that case I totally agree with him. If he meant the ability to drive fast in first rallies in WRC, then it's not so decisive difference for me.

Pretty much impossible to be true unless they chose a certain point on the power and torque curve where the increase is the highest and not the peaks (let's say they could reach +10% power at 3000 rpm and +2% at 6000 rpm but for better PR effect chose the first value). Even then it doesn't sound very realistic to me.

Colin Clark in his preview said SD was massively important for Neuville to get the i20 set-up right after struggling with over/understeer on recent gravel events.

He's pretty much slowest so far.

CC did say that, but if you look at SD here last year and also the years before the times often did not reflect much on the rally results.
