I'm the type of spectator that enjoys quality, not quantity. Unfortunately quality and quantity are very rare seen together in modern rallying.
I read also that Pirelli might have no ERC tyres ready which can cause problem for Bamuschlager and others.Quote:

I dont understand the german correctly (also after using translator), but all cars in ERC field must use NEW specification of tyres for tarmac (which is valid from 1.5.2013), actually there is no exception for use older tyres (like was waiver for Pirelli and Yokohama in second half of previous year). And it is not only for 18" tyres, but for all cars (also smaller).Quote:

Yes, that´s what is written in the arcticle. So that´s a problem for Baumschlager, because Jänner is his only international appearance.
Simon Wagner not starting because of his heavy accident at Rallye Waldviertel (too much costs):

...And what is the situation with Yokohama tyres right now?
I have no idea about other tyres but their 18" asphalt ERC tyres have been in use since Sanremo.

Jänner Rallye 2014 will probably be a pure tarmac Rally - it doesn´t look like weather is changing much, it will still be much too warm for this time of the year. So definitely no snow and maybe some small bits of ice would be a realistic scenario:
http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/MS_1449_ens.png
The horizontal lines in the middle show the temperature in at about 1500 meters above sea level, so at Jänner Rallye area it´s even some degrees warmer. The bottom lines show the expected preciptitation
Bad non-winter weather for the second year in a row - no good requirements for the continuing existence of a winter rally ... It seems like Jänner Rallye is suffering from change of climate.
I saw it was 17,8 degrees in Austria on Tuesday in a for me not known village / city, unbelievable.

Could anybody please give us any tips / advise for good photo / video spots, please?

Seems to be suffering quite bad understeer in the first video, but it could just be tyres/conditions.Quote:

Any news, if Valousek has secured the budget to start at the Jänner Rallye.

When being in Freistadt the last days one could even see snow Southeast and Northeast of Freistadt, especially in forest parts, but even in the Sandl-Liebenau area (SS 2/5 - highest part of the rally) I couldn´t observe snow on the roads - only on non public gravel forest roads, but not on public tarmac roads.
Still no chance for snow in Austria? We have 7C today in Poland :(
Thanks Wuff1! You answered my question before I even posted it :D
Sorry, Southwest of Freistadt! But there are hardly signs of snow southeast of Freistadt, where most of the stages take place (been to Lasberg and Pregarten).
Even on the higher parts of qualifying stage there´s some snow, but as mentioned non on the roads.
But ice (white frost) and black ice could be a factor, as observed on saturday.
Being back there on friday.

At the moment it looks like it will be a pure tarmac rally. But at least the weather should be better than last year. I don't know how the stages look like in Liebenau, St. Oswald or Unterweissenbach, but in the region around Pregarten there is absolute no snow. Even in the forests there aren't any icy patches.
Fia have screwed kubica with a new gear cut mininium time as it is paddle , a time longer than a manual shift would take, as vw have complained about him being allowed paddle which is a shameQuote:

I must say from spectator view that I'm extremly happy to have an absolute tarmac rally. The speeds are much higher and with gravel on the tarmac due to cutting of the bends it will be very attractive. Whenever there was snow during Jänner Rally everything seemed so slow-there are no studs allowed in Austria !Quote:

Expect small group of rally fans from Slovenia !
Studs are allowed in Austria and the were always allowed at Jänner Rallye. The Studs that are allowed in Austria are only much smaller than in Scandinavia. If you had seen the 2011 edition you wouldn't say, that Jänner Rallye on tarmac is more spectacular than on snow.
You are right, but this are short studs (Monte Carlo version), in the Scandinavia are different and therefore the grip and speed is uncomparable....Quote:
