Actually the reason Honda has pulled out of AMA/DMG is almost entirely down to the fact that DMG have turned US bike racing into a big Buell promotion. I don't blame Honda one little bit and their withdrawal is just the tip of the iceberg as far as I'm concerned. US roadracing (in the terms of roadracing that we all know and appreciate) is pretty much dead and buried, which is a great shame.Quote:

Time will tell, but the ASBK is looking sad, considering last year the ASBK had all four Japanese manufacturers and MV Agusta.

November 6- 7- 8th 2009 will see the running of the Kings International motorcycle race meeting for the 2nd year in a row.
Thirteen title winning international solo competitors, with multi British, Irish and world motogp rider Jeremy McWilliams and World Superbike contender Jonathan Rea now confirmed, plus a World Champion Sidecar team .
A Hospitality Package is now available giving spectators’ prime viewing in comfortable surroundings overlooking the Final Turn and Main Straight. U.K. Team of Tim Reeves and passenger Dan Sayle (IOM) - three times Superside FIM World Sidecar Champion will also be competing for the first time in Australia.
Suzuki rider, Josh Waters was today crowned Australian Superbike Champion after winning both races in the final round (7).
22 year old Waters in his rookie season as a full time rider came into the round 2 points behind reigning Champion Glen Allerton who placed 2nd and 3rd in the two races, enough to claim second in the championship on his private Honda.
Honda team mate Wayne Maxwell failed to finish after a fall while leading race 1, on lap 1, injuries meant he could not start the second race, yet managed to hold third in the Championship.
Effective at the completion of this round both the Factory supported Yamaha and Kawasaki teams will leave the ASBK.
That is a disappointing thing. The national championship is in a poor state, made worse by no factory involvement. I can't remember the ASBK being in such a state of disarray. :(Quote:

# These rounds are subject to change pending final negotiations. We are currently finalising all relevant contracts and seek to have the final calendar approved within two weeks. The possible changes include; (1) a track change with Broadford and or Queensland’s 2nd standalone round (2) an additional round with the V8 Supercars instead of World Superbikes. As at December 2009, it is more likely that ASBK will compete at WSBK in February.

Now, what's wrong with this picture? In my opinion, it can hardly be called a national championship when NSW, SA and WA are not listed as having a round.
Having attended the Mallala round each year for many poorly promoted, poorly catered, windswept, frozen, and faithful years, I must say that this provisional calendar is crap. Is there a reason (this isn't a rhetorical question, I genuinely would like to know)? Please, the GFC isn't a reason (IMO), before anyone says this.
Good on QLD and Tazzie, though I would have thought that three and two rounds a piece would test even the most avid follower of Oz bike racing's attention span.
This (on the face of it) is yet further proof that ASBK is run either by idiots or people intent on seeing bike racing in this country pushed to the margins, where we can more easily be monitored and culled.

Eccie, I agree with you whole heartedly. The ASBK has become a debacle!
There are some serious factions within the sport at the moment and it will take a long time to be sorted.
I just hope the carcas of what was a very good championship is not picked to death by the birds circling overhead.
Am stoked that Josh was able to clinch the title, and in his rookie year no less! Props to Glenn Allerton too on a sturdy defence of his title. He didn't miss by much. Was a disappointing end to a strong year from Maxwell. I think he was fastest all weekend with a big shot at the title so to crash out on the first lap of racing and break bones is disappointing.Quote:

S.A.'s ommision I can't work out except for a falling out between the circuit operators and the series promoter. Are there any other options in S.A. aside from Mallala?
With the closure of Amaroo Park and Oran Park in recent years, this leaves only Eastern Creek and Wakefield Park in NSW (that I know of). Wakefield I know very little of and Eastern Creek I saw described by Tony Cochrane from the V8 Supercar series as a "financial bloodbath", hence no supercars there this year. Something has to be found in NSW though, especially given that most of the riders come from there.
Multiple rounds in Qld and Tassie are no real drama as one of those rounds each are alongside the V8's.
The other disappointment is that more than half of the rounds are supports to other series (WSB, V8's). Add the departure of Kawasaki and Yamaha from the championship and things are looking pretty dour.
The positives are the inclusion of KTM running Shannon Johnson and a calendar less Vic-central but there's not much more than that.
It's going to be a hard road back, especially with the V8 Supercars really sucking the life out of motor racing in this country. I really think we need someone with the profile, ideas and resources similar to Chad Reed and his SuperX series is needed to make ASBK a vibrant and viable series again, attractive to fans and sponsors. I don't envy the people in charge.
