World Rallycross Championship a.k.a RALLYX

Been a long time out for Wilks but never gave up hope he'd get a chance again. It might be 'only' RX but its a start..

Hope he does well and gets more drives.

This explains how Wilks came to get the chance with JRM:
JRM Racing Team Principle, James Rumsey, “Guy’s motorsport pedigree is undisputed and we won the British Rally Championship together in 2008.
I have no doubt he’ll adapt to the requirements of rallycross quickly and successfully. He’s excited about seeing what he can do in the MINI RX and the feedback that he will give us as we test before the race weekend and at Lydden itself will be a massive benefit as we continue the development of the car and ultimately make it even more competitive in World RX.”

Also hope the MINI is a decent car as its good to have a variety of cars in the series.
JRM think it will be competitive: 'The car’s 1.6-litre BMW turbo engine produces around 480 bhp and this, coupled with the its excellent handling and driveability characteristics, means the MINI RX is expected to be more than a match for the other cars on the World RX grid in 2015.'

Good entry for the British round at Lydden Hill and the event should feel more like it should at this legendary Rallycross circuit !


'On top of the eight permanent two-car teams and two individual drivers, a number of British drivers make up the list of 12 wildcards who will contest the event in the 30 strong Supercar entry.

Double British rally champion Guy Wilks will make his World RX debut in a JRM Racing Mini RX, running the number 37, the same number as used on the famous 1964 Monte Carlo winning Mini. 2013 British Touring Car Champion Andrew Jordan finished on the podium at his home round of World RX last season and will return this year in a Team Peugeot-Hansen Peugeot 208. Andy Scott will return to the driving seat in an Albatec Racing run Peugeot 208, joined in the team by David Binks, who made his World RX debut at Loheac, France last season. Four-time British Rallycross champion Julian Godfrey will contest the event his successful Ford Fiesta, joined by Kevin Procter, who won the French round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship in 2012. Former British champion and 2015 Euro RX competitor Ollie O’Donovan will also start at his home event.

American Top Gear star Tanner Foust will make his second appearance of the season for Marklund Motorsport, on a track where he has historically done well, having claimed two victories at the venue in the last three years. Super1600 racer Janis Baumanis will make his first of three Supercar starts in 2015 at Lydden Hill, driving a Peugeot 208 for the Hansen Talent Development team, while former French champion Marc Laboulle will compete in a Citroen C4, run by his own team. Norwegian pair Ole-Kristian Nottveit and Guttorm Lindefjell will race a Volvo C30 and Ford Focus respectively under the Circlex team banner.'

I think they will use the car more like a moving advertisement for the team and sponsors, thus the driver choice.

I do not see any serious effort behind it, it is probably just a miniWRC with new aero pack and a wrc engine without any turbo limitations the WRC has.

With a handicap of around 100hp compared to the other cars it will not be good for them.

Pleased to see that Andrew Jordan is back (as well as Guy Wilks), he was good entertainment last year and it's nice to be able to cheer on a local guy that isn't a complete bellend (like certain other British drivers). Really looking forward to the event, although I'm sure that the RX Lites grid is a bit smaller, which is a shame as they can have some entertaining races.

Engine-wise maybe but a decent début in Germany looks good for the future...

JRM bought the full Prodrive Mini RX Project:

'The MINI RX is based on the MINI World Rally Car but with an upgraded engine, lightweight bodywork and other changes to make it competitive for rallycross.
The 1.6 litre turbo engine has been reengineered to produce more than 450 bhp. This, combined with a ten per cent reduction in weight, means the performance of the MINI RX matches the 2.0 litre rallycross cars, while still maintaining the excellent driveability and handling it inherits from the WRC chassis.'

Time will tell on the MINI's. I think the car will suffer on the power circuits and when the weight reduction for small engine cars is removed at the end of the year they are surely going to be forced to upgrade to 2.0L.

Was hoping for a few more Supercars for Lydden, but that is still a good entry: and loads of home talent to cheer on.

Blancpain this weekend, off to Belgium for the rallycross next weekend, then Lydden the weekend afterwards: it's a perfect month of motorsport!
