Geko Ypres Rally

So, some interesting statistics for tire freaks:-)
Abbring was driving with BF Goodrich rubber in Ypres and Kruuda was using Pirelli Control tires (to test for Bulgaria). Kruuda lost 2.11 s/km during the first day, 1.17 on next 3 stages, 1.03 sek/km from stages 10-13; 1.04 sek/km on 14-19 stage and 1.78 sek/km on last three stages (seems that there was some problem on the last stage , without that he lost 0.73 sek/km. You can compare their speed in Bulgaria and see what is the difference there. We can say that Kruuda was roughly 1 sek slover per km compared to Abbring by the end of rally.

In brief,,,had a great week ourselves, must be Ypres for a long time

Our plan was for a finish, after the last 2 attempts in the Fiesta,, so were off the pace somewhat, but the car ran well, with no problems, bar the intercom volume !! a couple of bent rims, big stall at the bales in Nieuwkerke, etc etc

The first couple of stages, had dead and bent cars all over the place, along with a fair bit of scenery damage were others had regained the road !!

If anyone has any pictures of the S1600 Fiesta, a link would be appreciated,

Kris Meeke said on local Belgian radio that he felt he had no chance with Peugeot this season. He said that he wouldn't have spoken about the speed of car if there was some Peugeot driver faster than him but there has been none so far. I think that it's quite obvious already for some time but hearing that on public means that he really is very disappointed.

By the way works Skoda were running reasonably longer gears than others, especially Ford.

The M-Sport Fiesta/Mikkelsen used a gearbox with maximum topspeed of 172. The other gearbox they could have used had a topspeed of 180-182. But they didnt change it.

I'm not sure about that but I think that Skodas were using gearbox with 182-184 km/h top speed. Peugeot 175 as usual I think. On long straights before places were I was works Skodas were always last in rpm limiter compared to good drivers on other cars. Fords on the other hand were first in rpm limiter.

It was also interesting that Mikkelsen's works car had completely different soud to Fiestas of Solowow and Oleksowicz.

Also driving through deep cuts was interesting. Where Fabias and especially Fiestas had all four wheel on the ground exiting cuts, Peugeots and especially Protons were kicked in the air.

Saw the 2 girls saturday after they got back to service park, they where ok but still shaken

Also Oliviera had big one and his co-driver has to stay in Ypres hospital at least till tuesday.

2 207S2000 with lots of damage, 3 if you also count Meeke

Tsjoen's one is also very much damaged, so 4.

No problem now as Peugeot has about 14 cars in stock with 'everybody' buying Fiesta or Fabia :D

Before you had to wait if you wanted one, now there are cars in stock.

Said before Ypres, still want to see a car beating the 207S2000 on tarmac, saw it this weekend :D Well done Skoda with the evolution.

Bad luck for Proton and now the boys are on their way to Whangarei in NZ for APRC and same engine spec there too... hopefully the big bosses of Proton who where in Ypres and where impressed, give the team some more support to get the engine right.

If Peugeot give a next evolution of the engine to Meeke and Magelhaes in Azores it could be interesting too.

I heard that Protons had problems with broken valve springs. Can anyone confirm? If that's true it's quite classic problem for high-rpm engines which all teams had during development and had to solve out.
