Who's making any jokes about it, you were the one who rather foolishly raised it. And then started to try and pretend you hadn't.Quote:

Man United had their record home attendance at Maine Rd, just after the war because Old Trafford was being repaired due to war damage.
Also, because of the BBC World Service, results were probably flying around the world as part of their news bulletins since about the since about 1945.
Generally most clubs had their record attendances before 1970 whilst there was still terraces and really before the advent of television and MoTD. Mostly I'd suggest that was because you could physically (and legally) pack more people into the grounds.
The first real glimpse of the sort of what televsion would/could do to the game happened on the last day of the 1988/89 season when Liverpool played Arsenal at home and threw away the title with seconds to spare in extra time. Michael Thomas scored the goal at the Anfield Rd end.
So famous they made a film about it - Fever Pitch with Mr DarcyQuote:

But Debt Utd are still the biggest bunch of see you next Tuesday s going as are so many of their clueless glory chasing fake nylon shirt wearing fans where ever they may reside.
So funny watching them get drubbed by their noisy neighbours, one of my highlights of the year so far, a real warm glow :-)
And looking likely they'll get 2nd in their group (if that) for CL so we'll see them get another lesson from Barca ha ha.
Well as someone who has only been following England football for a year, I will say that I started following it because Manchester United signed a charismatic young Mexican, and Santa just might bring my little boy a Manchester United Shirt with Chicharito on the back. I guess I'm a plastic living in Memphis TN. :p . ManU should sign Brek Shea next, I'd bet they would sell thousands more.
On Saturday, MUFC's back five cost more than MCFC... £29.1 million for Ferdinand remember?Quote:

No Man Utd became wealthy because the TV-rights are decided in such a way that big clubs get more than small clubs. So every year they get 25 million more than the last premier league club.Quote:

Although it's still better than Spain. No wonder Barcelona and Real Madrid are always 30 points ahead at the end of the year...

And look at the Champions League, Man Utd nets more money than Barcelona!

And, just for fun, look at the money that is distributed in the Europa League. Winners FC Porto collected a whooping 7.8 million.
