Excluding Canada and Mexico that share borders with the US, which country is the closest to the US, where, and at what distance.
Well if you count Gitmo as part of the US it is O with Cuba.
Otherwise I would think Russia (one of their islands to an Alutetian Island) in the Bering Strait and probably 4 or 5 miles. Darned if I know the names of the islands though.
That is what I get for watching the Deadliest Catch.
Yeah I would say Russia too or Bahamas..< 100 miles off the Florida Keys I believe?
Good enough,Quote:

I too watch Deadliest Catch but found this after Sarah Palin's "I can see Russia from Alaska" comments
This one should be fairly easy.
In the US.
It is called the Grand Canyon of the East.
Where is it and the name?
Closest 2 cities?
What River flows through it?
Into what body of water does the river empty into?
The only "canyon" in the east that I can think of is Ausable Chasm in New York (I think it's a stretch to call it a canyon :s ), a popular stop for Quebecers on route for a day of fun at Plattsburg beach on Lake Champlain.
Closest two cities: Dunno, Plattsurg is probably one; can't think of the other.
River: No idea; I'll guess the Ausable River :D
I believe it empties into Lake Champlain.
Sorry No.
Right state though.
Figured it was a stretch... :mark:
Dunno, I'm stumped.
Not the Hudson River is it?
Nope.
I expect some of our American cousins will get this one or Mark from Oshawa when he gets back from his journeys.
I have been there and it is pretty spectacular but surprisingly not well known.
Letchworth. Just east of Buffalo. Not sure on the river but likely the Genesee and it flows north into Lake Ontario.

You got it Mark. I expected you would. I don't know where our 'New Yawkers' were. It is about 60 miles from both Buffalo and Rochester. 3 good sized waterfalls at North end and a large Dam at the South. It is a State Park and quite spectacular. About 17 miles long. If I remember correctly the Canyon is 700 feet deep at one point. Not all that far from Watkins Glen.
Yes, the State Park at the Glen is worth a hike.
We drove the original Glen Circuit. Does take some finding in places. Stone Bridge is something. Must have been a thrill in those 40's & 50's cars along with the 2 level crossings. I remember that they had to time the races between trains.
Ok...since I am "it" I will do this one: Since we are on a Canyon theme, where is the "grand canyon of the pacific"?
Bonus if you can tell me what other significant spot is near this location....
I just realized I goofed on locations in Letchworth. The dam is at the North end and the waterfalls at the south end. Have stayed at Glen Iris Lodge by the middle waterfall.
Talking land canyon or the larger underwater canyons of the Pacific?
Drifter...if I tell you THAT narrows it down and I am not going to do that. The title I gave it is a nickname of it given by one Mark Twain if THAT helps....
It does and I know the answer but I will let someone else have a go, or at least the first part not the bonus.

Markabilly, as for him not seeing it, I think he was told about it and maybe shown some picture of it. With Samuel Clemens, he was a master of hyperbole and promotion, even for places he had never seen....
I don't know the name of waimea canyon but it is by some mountain that is the wettest place on earth or so some claim ( i tend to doubt that as I been to wai'ale'ale and she ain't no wetter than a couple of other mounts i been in.......) I think some say one side is very very dry (yes I have dealt with some of those as well) and the other is where they filmed fantasy island king kong and suchQuote:

Your question sir...
the canyon was my most fav and i liked it better than the original GC becuse of the colors and diversity....the north side of the island is a classic paradise..........so an easy question:
where breed tiny monsters?
:?:
This is very intriguing... :confused:Quote:

Sooo... have these monsters been located?
you might as well just ask a question - it looks like it could be a while til the Kool-aid wears off :p :
