(How good is your knowledge of Liverpool in the 1960's?)
Ian St John was Liverpool's centre forward when they were promoted from the 2nd Division to the 1st Division in 1962. (The 1st Division became the Premier League decades later.) He went on to win championship medals with Liverpool for 63/64 and 65/66 and scored the winning goal in the 1965 FA Cup final.

This was on a small poster on a lamp post (like those people use for lost cats) in the background of a tracking shot in the opening scene of an episode of League of Gentlemen.
After all the fuss over the "LOST" TV series that aired a year or two before, the comment really made me laugh and appreciate the attention to detail of the writers of League of Gentlemen.
