Is it a Lola T153?
For the big money on Chris's photo.
Who is checking the right front tire?
champcarray has it - it is a Lola!! your turn!
Hello.
Sorry, I've been away from house for my high school reunion all weekend. I couldn't find an actual photo of this car in electronic format, so I'm going to submit a photo of a model if that's OK with you. Please name the car and driver, track where it debuted, and its (in)significance!
Sorry for the delay -- I was away from the house this weekend for my high school reunion. I couldn't find an electronic photo of the attached and dont' have access to a scanner, so I'm submitting a photo of a model. Hope that's OK with you guys. Please provide the year, car, driver, track where it debuted, and its (in)significance!
The signficance was the use of the high wing. The rest I haven't a clue about.
Gary
neat picture - even if it is a model...
I have seen that car before - but I had to do a little digging to figure it out:
1962 Watson-Offy
Indy
Jim rathman
car was entered by Smokey Yunick
First winged car at Indy. Wing was asked to be removed by officals - which was ok wiht Smokey becasue while the car was faster in the turns, it was slower on the straights so the net results was pretty much a wash....
You are correct, Chris. Your turn.
I read that the car went 146 mph in the corners, but couldn't go much faster on the straights because of the drag! It still amazes me that a winged car debuted in 1962 -- it took several more years for the concept to catch on!
Smokey was always a little ahead of the curve... I love some of the folklore stories about him - like the 7/8 scale Chevelle he used in NASCAR (don't know if it is really true or just a tall tale....
ok, here's the next....
I think someone might have used this in the past - but it is worth repeating......

It's funny that you mention that because DW mentioned that Bill Elliot's all conquering 1985 t-bird was smaller than regs thus aero faster than everyone else...
Anyway to get back on topic, the pic is of Al Unser Sr in a March 87c at Nazareth.
teamsuperimu has it!! welcome to the thread!!
your turn...
I had not heard that about Elliot's car.....
Thanx, I've been lurking for a while I feel like I should contribute something. You know the drill. This shouldn't be too hard.

Here you go - the usual stuff please....
PS - I just noticed that there is some print at the top of the photo - please ignore if you don't want to spoil the fun - it is pretty hard to read anyway.....

gotta love the "beak" on those Eagles!!
your turn
Mike Mosley, Eagle, '76, Milwaukee
Wrong driver, track and year, correct chassis.
Thanks, IIRC, the beak idea was from Dan's (Gurney) dad. Beautiful car. The 66-67 Eagle is one of my favorites.Quote:

Yes, its David "Swede" Savage at Trenton in April, 1973. The car is in the Patrick Racing colors as STP had not decided to sponsor a car/team as of yet. This was Savage's penultimate race. Nazareth was not on the calendar until the late-1980's.
