You're right about the scheme though - the main player in the family businesses is in fact his brother.
They are most definately not the richest family in Finland. They might just fit to TOP 20 nowdays... Back in 2006 the family had a net revenue of 57 million euros. For comparison the richest family in Finland, the Erkko media mogul family had a net revenue of around 3 billion euros..!
In 2008 Jouhki told in an in-depth interview that managering is just a hobby for him. He said that he couldn't do it without the wealth gotten from other sources. He has had some business schemes but he says that the results for him from the managering are pretty much + - 0 euros... For example he never took any money from Juha Kankkunen because of excellent sponsor (and car) deals which he negotiated.
You also didn't told the whole story regarding the Hirvonen/Subaru deal. Prodrive wanted McRae badly for their team (mainly because of his nationality - same with the team), but the Japanese directors back at Subaru weren't really happy - because he was a very expensive driver. So Jouhki and Tommi helped Hirvonen to Subaru. By appointing Hirvonen to the team Subaru guys saved a lot of $$ and everyone except Prodrive/Richards were happy. Hirvonen never got nearly any support from Prodrive and we all know the results...
Leon asked about British drivers that Jouhki had looked into. These were Wilks and Meeke. But they never passed Jouhki's rigorous mental tests which he conducts to his rally proteges and brokers with the help of one of the Finland's leading (sport/society)psychologist Seppo Heino.
Yes, Jouhki might be a very tough businessman - even harsh at times. But then again, motorsport, like any other sport, is run by MONEY. Money, money, money. You just can't escape the fact. Personally I admire mr. Jouhki very much. He has been one of Finland's key figures in the rallying scene for many decades now and I'm deeply grateful to him because he has invested sh*tloads of his own money to help young Finnish guys to climb to the top.
