Miguel Fuster won the st event of Spanish Champ. with is new Punto S2000 from MRT by Nocentini (an Italian team)
Fuster showed how good Punto S2000 is on Tarmac roads, off course Fuster is on of the best Spanish drivers at the present, and his is running on that stages for more than 15 years, but, there were some other good drivers with good cars and they didn't got the pace of Fuster.

Alberto Hevia with a Polo S2000 was second overall, in my opinion the "problem" is in the car, maybe VW Polo S2000 isn't so good as Punto is. Hvia es a fast driver, but he didn't go the pace of Fuster.. and finished more than one minute behind Fuster.

Xavier Pons was 3rd overall with an EVO IX, a car that he know perfectly, he started the rally winning the opening stage but after that.. he only won one more stage.. I think it was a little bit disappointing performance by Pons...

4th overall was Pedro Burgo, Champion of GR N in 2006. He had a little off in one of the morning stages and after that he was clearly out of the fight for a podium finish.

After some years away from the competition, Puras got a 5th place, he had some gear box and brakes problems in the car, maybe on next rally he could improve his performance and get the right pace.

The S1600 cars were all the time far away from Top times... the best S1600 was Sergio Perez in his Clio.. he was "only" 7tg overall...

About retirements... Joan Vinyes, with a C2 S1600 had eletric problems and was forced to retire early in the rally..

Sergio Vallejo and Yerai Lemes were the biggest surprises of the rally. both were doing an exceptional rally.
Vellejo with his GT Porsche was consistently fast in the stages.. he even won one stage, but after that victory he was forced to retire with mechanical problems.

Lemes is a young canarian boy that is running Spanish Champ. campaign, he was going really well, but unfortunately he had an off and was forced to retire.

Thanks Madiera Rally, I was impressed by the performance of the S2000s here. Can you let us know if/when there are any vidoes of this event?
An important rally happened in eastern France yesterday and today, with many WRC and other 4WD GrA cars, the Rallye d'Epernay Vins de Champagne... ;)
Many retirements among the drivers with big cars :s
Paul Bizalion(Toyota Corolla WRC) off road, Jean-Paul Grohens(Peugeot 206 wrc), broken front wheel after an off, Jean-Jacques Lebrun(Toyota Celica GT) mechanical, Christophe Harroue(Ford Escort Cosworth) mechanical, Armando Pereira(Peugeot 307 wrc "the whale") gearbox before penultimate stage of rally, ... :(
Finally the rally was won by former winner of the event, Alain Vauthier(206 wrc) in front of Jean-Marie Lexcellent(206 wrc) and José Barbara(Subaru Impreza WRC) :)
Exellent result for the 2WD cars, Daniel Forès(306 Maxi) finishing 5th, Thierry Chkondali(206 RC GrA) 6th, Stéphane baudier(Clio Maxi FA7)7th,... ;)
