yeah, vacations, work after vacation (twice as hard as normal work), family stuff - amazing how truly important stuff can keep me away from this fun stuff (although it is a much needed diversion!!).... :)
anyhow - lets try:
Rick Mears
1980 Ontario
PC-7 Penske
I guess he ran this before the new PC-9 with the snazzy paint job was ready....
Hey Zoomie! 5 posts in 5 years, you goin' for some kind of record!? :p :Quote:

Welcome back you two. I have been working as there is a threat of a strike and filming has been going mad for both TV and Features.
Your Turn Chris.
Here's a pretty easy one - sorry if I posted it before....
Thanks. Never let it be said I am too wordy here. ;)Quote:

While this is one of hte lesser known Coyote's, I think it was one of the best looking "transition" cars from 69-71 when they started to adapt wings etc.....
It's interesting that Donnie Allison had some success with this car also during the 1971 season. Nice looking car for it's time. :up:Quote:

wow - that looks like a stumper.... Looks like a road course - but nothing raced on in the relevant time frame.... Unless the picture is really distorted it looks like a strange marriage of an Eagle and a very early Parnelli.....
Lets try this for lack of a better guess:
Dan Murphy 25 Adams Automotive Cicada Offy TC -- Wrecked qualifying
Phoenix 1974
Question is - what the hewck is a Cicada (the race car, not the bug)
also, jsut came upon osmething of possible local interest to me. Anybody know anything about the Steve Durst whose entry was declined at the Ontario 500 in 1974???
Looks like you got it Chris, I was saving a photo of a Cicada to try to stump you all later. It's funny, I was just fixing to post the same guess as you, guessing it was Phoenix, too, because Phoenix has been posting a lot of photos of Phoenix. I guess Phoenix came up with a treasure trove of Phoenix photos! :D ;) :)
too funny!!
So, I guess the car is a strange marriage of a PArnelli and Eagle!! :p
You are correct. :up:Quote:

Steve Durst I believe drove IMSA Camel GT Lights during the 80's-90's. Thats about all so far. Righting bios for driver before 1990 is tough I finished the one on Gordon Smiley but I know I missed some info.

here isthe next one. The usual please....
Paul Goldsmith
Epperly Offy
1960 Indy
Possibly 1959 since the cars were virtually identical if not the same.
you are correct!!
it is 1960 when he finished third....
your turn!
Here's the next one!Quote:

Thinking back (hindsight being 20/20) - losing Tim Richmond to NASCAR was the first sign that NASCAR was gaining momentum at the expense of the openwheelers.....
You got it! :bounce:Quote:

kinda bummed we didn't get one Dan Gurney guess..... :(
FWIW My first thought was Dan Gurney when I saw the thumbnail, but when I enlarged it, it was obviously not Dan Gurney.Quote:

Cool photo that show the end of one generation of Champ Cars and a start of a new one. The finishing order was reversed from the picture but the last chapter of the front engine rodster had begun.
Your Turn.

You got it. Looking at the record, Scott's dad ran a few other races in the Coyote-Foyt #61 so that has to be it. I don't know why it's listed differently in the box score.
Anyway, you're up. :)
It's interesting that they still have no info or the wrong info out there. That car was up for sale not to long ago. The Coyote MkIII or 72 was built by Foyt Racing using bulkheads purchased from AAR. The car was bought from Lee Brayton by Pat Patrick Racing and used as a show car.Quote:
