2011 South African National Rally Championship

We had a very average rally finishing 8th overall, no real excuses other than a broken damper in SS1 and overheating in SS5 due to a problem radiator.

The event was won by Conrad Rautenbach on pure pace on day 2, however Johnny Gemmel was very unfortunate , apparently was 11 sec up on the halfway split on SS7 when his engine expired, this would have put him back into the lead.

Not 100% sure of all the championship scenarios, but i do know the final event is going to be a showdown second to none.

Further to what Grant said earlier Gemmell was leading but landed badly after a jump on SS5 which later led to his retirement in SS7. Poulter had been in 2nd overnight but suffered a puncture. Cronje was first on the road and therefore the first to find long grass on the road in SS1, which blocked the radiator, overheating the engine and damaging it, meaning he could only finish 9th.

The championship now gets very complicated. Not only are the drop scores now coming into effect, but Rautenbach and Gemmell both have to drop 2 events due to their disqualification on the Gauteng Rally. Interestingly Toyota are appealing Gemmell's disqualification but there has been no news about whether Rautenbach is appealing or not. Anyway, championship standings, with drop score points in brackets, where applicable.

Finished the final round on sunday, yet another 8th for us :-/

Struggled most of the event with a slipping clutch, but got it to the end and made it 8 out of 8 for the year... next year needs to be a big step up in pace.
