An error from Neuville during his first pass of shakedown
"It's been an extremely chaotic start for us," Thierry Neuville told RTBF's special correspondent at Monte Carlo, Olivier Gaspard. "We broke a transmission a few hundred meters after the start, and while trying to make it to the finish line slowly, a chain of events led to the loss of the front right wheel. This sent me into the ditch. We managed to get out of the stage, but it wasn't the start we wanted. With the transmission failure, the wheel locked up, and that broke the suspension, which sent us off the road."
"I admit it's very difficult to predict our performance level at this Monte Carlo Rally," continued the 2024 World Champion. "We worked hard, we did the best we could in such a short time and with the joker we still had available, but I'm still struggling to find the confidence I need to say I'm 100% comfortable with the car. But on a rally like this, you have to start slowly and gradually increase the speed. I'm always happy to be at the start of Monte Carlo and just as excited to start a new season. It's a clean slate and we have a score to settle; I hope we'll be able to bounce back."

This is where you can see actual weather radar for rally region. It shows precipitation, but does not show type - not possible to tell, what is rain and what is snow. - - - - https://meteologix.com/lv/radar-hd/p...ur#play-0-12-5
The picture is taken very close to the finish of ss2. Taken from a French forum.

For those who don't have the link, tyre choices and stage conditions will be updated here by Hankook: https://hankook-recce.com/
edit:
SS1 looking dry with some damp and icy patches
More snow/rain to come today. I don't think that snow will last until the evening, I'm worried that the temperatures will be too high in the afternoon. Anyways, it will be tricky to be first on the road, even though forecast says 0-1 degrees, it could freeze in some parts. Looking forward!! SS2 will be the most difficult IMO.

Tire choices
Ogier, Evans, Armstrong: 2 super-softs + 4 studded tires
Pajari, Neuville, Munster, Fourmaux, Katsuta, Paddon, McErlean, Solberg: 4 studded tires + 2 snow tires
Surprised by the tire choices tbh, I expected SS1 and SS3 to be dry-wet-slush, not snowy. Going with no softs at all suprises me. Does anyone have the link for Hankook recce analysis please?
When SS 1 will be mostly dry, SS 2 will be mixture of everything including ice and snow. SS 3 is currently mostly wet, but it will start later in the evening, so it is expected it will be freezing, so lot of ice is expected, I think.
Dry of snow/ice at the moment maybe? :)
Lets GO !
