Solberg & Mikkelsen... hairpin-tastic !

New car for Solberg?
It is not marked in e-wrc other than the reg number and 1 event. Has Solbergs bought another one, or is a team running him in Canaries?
I have seen between Monday and Tuesday Tuesday all the favorites pass in front of me about 15-20 times, except Mikkelsen, Breen, Solberg, Lukyanuk and Griebel.
In my opinion, the drivers with the best pace were Fourmaux, Bonato, Mary-Mellnhof, Monzon and Cohete Suarez.
Erik Cais will make his Rally Islas Canarias debut this week boosted by guidance from established asphalt ace Eric Camilli.
Camilli has experience of the Ford Fiesta R5 MkII that Cais is using in his bid to secure third place in the FIA ERC1 Junior Championship standings – and was on hand to advise the 21-year-old Czech star during Rally Islas Canarias testing yesterday (Tuesday).
“The rally looks very interesting with a lot of full-speed corners with Tarmac that has a good grip,” said Cais, who competes under the Yacco ACCR Team banner alongside co-driver Jindřiška Žáková. “The high-speed corners will be difficult so you need to be really precise, but it’s what I need to get experience of.
“I’ve tried to look at the onboards but it’s not so easy because of all the corners and it will take time. It’s my first time on this rally and that’s not good for me when I am trying to fight for third [in ERC1 Junior] but let’s see, I will try to do my best.”

Welcome to the @FIAERC season showdown on Gran Canaria for
@RIslasCanarias. On Recce this morning and the weather is very unpredictable up in the hills. Tyre choice will be critical.

On my way to the #RallyIslasCanarias, the @FIAERC
title-decider. Once again, I'd like to take off my hat for all the people involved as they managed to put a balanced, attractive and safe calendar in record time despite the challenges raised by the pandemic. Let's enjoy the show!

Anyway I found Marczyk interesting, both here so far and in Hungary he is top 3 on short and SSS stages and then miles back on others.
Lukyanuk slow on QS as the police stopped him from warming his tyres.
Luky will be so far in the order tomorrow, also seems Munster will be at the back also.
Great time from Marczyck so far
Charles Munster destroyed his car, but Munster family managed to find another one :)

P.S. I didn't know that Charles is Gregoire's brother and Bernard's son. A rally family :)
Lukyanuk said he wasnt in the right mood or with the best set-up to push on the QS. So he chose to save tyres as thinks the weather will be mostly dry.
He didnt seem bothered by starting so far back and is happy the others wont know his times before they have to start their next stage.
Solberg:
Qualifying Stage and practice done at @RIslasCanarias- 7th fastest despite quite a lot of sliding ! Picked 5th on the road tomorrow so let’s see how it goes - expecting it to be very wet which adds another layer to the challenge of a new rally !
Luykanuk says dry and Solberg very wet...are they going to drive the same rally?
Why did Marczyk choose the 12th starting position? Is it better to drive so far down the order?
That's good question. Probably he doesn't feel confident to drive first, i.e. wants to follow the lines of others but why so far back? Canarias is a rally where cutting is rare and dirt is mostly not an issue so starting farther back may not be that bad. However the first one never catches someone (exept for Bouffier who once caught the zero car :D ) which is an advantage for sure. I don't know if on Canarias there is the sort of rubber effect known from circuits where the grip gets better with amount of rubber on the asphalt (until it starts raining).
imho its just to see the times from top competitors to have a measure of how fast/slow he is

Here we can see the strategy of Luky, he just slowed to be last
Probably to be sure to start after Solberg.
An interesting video from Miko Marczyk's helmet camera:

Andreas Mikkelsen is back with the next episode of his Rally Life series, this time from Canary Islands:

Any livestream or rallyradio?

Yeah, strange, isn't it? Anyway, this is how he did that - a 2-minute onboard video from the qualifying stage:

Here: https://www.fiaerc.com/live-radio/
First ss starts at 1119 CET.
19-year-old Solberg can become the youngest European champion ever by winning the event, by scoring maximum leg bonus points and hoping Lukyanuk manages to land no more than 20 points.

Ooo, they have onboards on the livestream. progress!
Looks really tricky conditions on the first stage.
Good start by Fourmaux.
