Monte Carlo is a lottery, You never know there. I was there four times and never in those editions the fastest driver won. If the weather is stable than it's a lot easier but if it starts to change in the mountains it becomes a lot about luck.Quote:

Well, it's not a coincidence that Loeb has won it 7 times, Mäkkinen 4 times and Ogier twice. It's not all about luck, since it's actually dominated by the multible and very FAST world champions.Quote:

No snow up there of note and he gives a bit of a weather forecast.
And don't forget Hanninen, who was by far the fastest in 2011; but 1 bad tyre choice on the 2nd day cost him the event - and conversely Bouffier made the right choice and won.
You are right of course, there is no such thing as luck in winning Monte Carlo but a matter of Intelligence from all team members : set up, tires, weather, pace notes, throttle, consistency.Quote:

The problem with Monte is to say what is gamble and what is the most likely situation? In 2011 only two top drivers took studs for the infamous snowfall and one of them thanks to that won the rally without winning a single stage (Bouffier). Did he gamble or did all the others? Who decides? :)
