The Renault R29 and R30 from 2009-2010 were both pretty gross if you ask me.
I always thought that the Daytona Prototypes were particularly hideous.

Close but no cigar, that is a 1972 March 721 which was for me the most hideous F1 car ever, also amongst it's shortest lived, by mid-season the March 721G was rolled out as a replacement, this was a March 722 F2 chassis adapted to accept a Ford DFV which was adopted by the factory when privateers had done the very same thing (fitted a F1 backend to a 722 tub) and outperformed the works team with their 721s!Quote:

I often find the mid-70s F1 cars a bit... in a way hideous, but more like curious. I mean it was an early stage of aerodynamics development in F1, but the huge airboxes and some of the boxy wings make you wonder, what DID they really think of aerodynamics back then...
I'm late to the party so not sure if this has been suggested. But the Peugeot 307cc rally cars of the mid 00s were disgusting. From an aesthetic point of view, using the the hatchback would have been far better. They raced in the BTCC around the same time and weren't offensive to the eye.
In reality the huge airboxes didn't really have much to do with aero or engine performance, they were simply there to provide sponsors a huge sign boardQuote:

It's weird though. I always liked the quirky look of the 97 Tyrell. It stood out and I think today there is too much moaning about different things on cars. The shark fin which has appeared probably make the 2017 cars look less beautiful but it can't all be about shape others the 50s and 60s designs would be brought back.

I think there was a safety aspect too. Several of the other mid-field cars started sprouting those wings. IIRC correctly, Alesi's Sauber lost one when it got caught on the fuel pipes during a pit stop, ripping it off.Quote:
