Namibia and Angola ?
Correct
Correct who?
My post directly following your post was directed at your post.
I don't have a good Q so I'd ask the one that ended our 4th episode:
Where is the strait known as the Gate of Grief and what is its real name?
If it could be considered a tip, its name is mentioned in a well known romanian poem about a horse. :p :

The moon is closest to earth on perigee but I don't know a certain location.
On the other hand Moon is a common name in Korea so I guess it's overthere.
EuroTroll beat me to it. It's Chimborazo. I remember reading that in an article somewhere. Isn't it weird that you can remember stuff like that for years, but I still can't memorize my damn mobile phone number :D
ET is correct (of course ;) )
Yeah, on a previous geo thread, we once had the question of what was the furthest point on Earth from the center of the Earth. It was the peak of Mt. Chimborazo. So I figured it must be the closest point to anything orbiting Earth. :)
Anyway, new Q: Communism Peak was the tallest point in the former USSR. Today, that peak is called Qullai Ismoili Somoni. Which country is it located in?
Oh, that's easy for a former east German :D It's in Tajikistan. Pretty much discernable from the new name as well :)
Should be one of the "kistan" rep. but I don't know which.
I don't know their landforms.
Correct! :up:Quote:

Ok, this requires a bit of airplane nuttery :D
The shortest possible flight from civilian airport to civilian airport between Russia and the USA is less than 40 nautical miles. From where to where would you be flying? (direction doesn't matter ;) )
Provideniya to Point Hope?
One of them is correct, but there's a much shorter one. Point Hope to provideniya is 284nm, we are looking at a flight of around 50nm (that was a typo in my original question, sorry)
Additional hint. The flight doesn't exist as a commercial flight, but provided you have all the paperwork, you could well fly it in a little Cessna.
Ok how about Provideniya to Little Diomede
Does little Diomed even have an airport? Anywho. It's still too far. Look a bit closer to Provideniya :)
Just a bit of grass where foolhardy pilots occasionally land!!Quote:

How about an addition to the rules, to keep things speeding along? ;)
Rule 4 - If you don't ask a new Q within 24 hours, you lose your turn and anybody can jump in with a question. :)
In that spirit, I hope Mintexmemory won't mind my asking: What is the English name of the countries whose names in the local languages are:
1) Shqiperia
2) Hayastan
3) Suomi
4) Magyarorszag
5) Sak'art'velo
1. Um, I have no idea, Jordan?
2. Um, I have no idea, Pakistan?
3. FINLAND!!!
4. HUNGARY!!!
5. Um, I have no idea, Zimbabwe?
Finland (Suomi) and Hungary (Magyarorszag) are correct. :)Quote:

Nope. :)Quote:

A further clue: Hayastan and Sak'art'velo are neighbours.
Perhaps a map will help. ;)

Another clue: Sak'art'velo has two break-away regions over which it has no de facto administrative control. Both regions have declared independence, but this independence is internationally recognised only by Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
Georgia?
Is Sak'art'velo Azerbaijan?
