A wonderful FREE app to add if you can . . . .
I got this new FREE app- which was named by TIME magazine as one of the top ten apps of the year.
It is called AroundMe and this is what it does:
If you are an iPhone user - and probably other phones have this too - you have incorporated in it a feature called "map". Basically it is a GPS locator and it will let you look for an address or any other location and show it to you in the map as it also references your location via GPS.
It's great for locating addresses in the city but also if you are walking the city and you want to find a Citibank or a Starbucks, you have to go to the map app and type the word of what you want info on and it will proceed to show you all the Citibanks or Starbucks in the city and you will get to see which one is closest to your present location.
Now, with this new FREE app, once you launch it it gives you a menue that has all these options:
Banks/ATM, Bars, Coffee, Gas Station, Hospitals, Hotels, Movie theaters, Parking, Pharmacies, Pubs, Restaurants, Supermarkets, Taxis, Theater
And if I want a coffee for example, I press on Coffee and it will immediately name, in order of closeness measured by yards, all the coffee joints from my corner deli to the Starbucks that is 5 blocks away. I can extend my search by asking for a wider distance range and once I find which one interests me, I click on it and the GPS map appears with my location and the coffee shop that I want to go to.
Very cool app. No more typing names and fidgeting with your keyboard trying to type "Starbucks".
