And all they have to do is to homologate shock abrorbers for gravel because all the other suspension parts are original in R1. I looked at the technical specification and the chock absorbers are non-adjustable.Quote:

It would be strange if FIA has created the R1 regulations only for tarmac. At least the specific regulations concerning the shocks are same for R1, R2 and R3.
So can anyone explain shortly the R1a/R1b regulations? Is there special gearbox, differential, engine data...etz?
R1A is up to 1400 cm3 and R1B is up to 1600 cm3. Otherwise the regulations are the same for both. R1 is almost a stanadard car and R2 and R3 are almost the same for the execption some small differncies in the suspension and bodywork regulations.
As I recall it it's a stanadard car except chocks and ECU.
What about gearbox in R1? Dogbox? Sequential?Quote:

That´s a pity. Wouldn´t be so much more cost having adecent dog-box so that drivers can do left foot braking more properly... The learning should start even on this lowest level.Quote:

Does anyone has estimates how many R1 cars / kits have already been sold?
Or what is approximately the number of R1 cars in different European countries?
My current opinion is that R1 isn't coming to be popular in first wave, since with the price of a new R1 car, you still have too many cheaper and fascinating options on second hand rally cars markets.
There are lots of them in France thanks to one-make cups but otherwise very few I think. Here in CZ it was only one Twingo last year. In 2013 few Citroën DS3 will join but I expect only two or three.
The DS3 R1 arrived in the Netherlands yesterday.

2 Twingo's in the first Rally of the Belgian Championship. I guess there will be some more in Belgium...
We now have 3 R1 Fieata's, coming from http://www.facebook.com/JRSOLU?ref=stream&group_id=0
Martin Schanche Jr have set up a good system for people new to rally to be able to try i out in a R1!!
In Spain Enrique Garcia Ojeda(together with Citroën Espana) becomes a "teacher" for young drivers and will offer a DS3 R1 to the best of them this season...at least it's what I understood from spanish language

Have DS3 R1 got gravel suspension yet?
Are there any new manufacturers arriving to R1 or R2 scene?
There was nice picture from Yaris R1 in page 3, is Yaris R1 popular in any particular country? Have they done R2 version from Yaris at all?
Is Yaris R1 already homologated?
On a circuit....Quote:

This thread has been quiet for a long time. Any news from R1 class / cars / championships?
I have been running 2 Fiesta R1s for the better part of a year now, and the car is great. No issues beside occationally changing wheel bearings, the biggest problem beeing drivers that cant really drive.... Cheap cars to fix also...
The cars performs perfectly and has scored top 20 finishes in a +100 car field. Everyone says they feel like the cars handles on rails, the limit beeing themselves. We have had everyone from complete rookies to seasoned drivers competing in winter, gravel and tarmac events, and everyone cant stop telling us how great the car is.
Unfortunately finding sponsorship to host a cup with these R1 cars has not been successful, so for now we continue showing anyone interested how easy it can be to go rallying...

Thank you Jr for very good update. I can confirm those comments also because I´ve had a ride with R1 here in Finland. It sure is ´easy´ to handle and cheap to maintain..
It looks like there is similar difficulties to find budgets all over the Nordic (at least). It´s a pity that people don´t believe those cars because they really could be a future for rallying in amateur level..
ps. I don´t see rails anywhere in the 3rd photo ;) ;)
Let's say all over the world... :( It has always been difficult, but it's getting worse, companies are considering much more about what expenses they will do and what not. Still some people have it much easier to find budget, than others, not always directly related to talent (more about setting up a project and sell it, about business connections etc). In Belgium there are not many drivers interested in R1-cars. They prefer some older Saxo or Clio or something similar. The price to buy some R1 car is still high... Also with typical Belgian roads (with numerous junctions and long straights) the engine seems to be too weak to make it a competitive car. R2 on the other hand is running very well, also thanks to the junior championship and the support of local importers (Fiesta Trophy, 208 cup, support from Skoda and Renault).Quote:

Sad thing if no firm see the benefit of sponsoring a R1 cup, because that has potential as more or less an "arrive and drive" option for people that cannot spend hours in a workshop fixing their own car.
Looking at their facbookpage ( https://www.facebook.com/JRSOL )their are expanding their workshop, and posting a lot of R5 pictures these days, so maybe we will see them running R5s in 2014. :s mokin: :D
Did any country start R1 cup yet?
It will be held in Czech rallysprint championship 2014. One cup for Fiesta R1 and one for DS3 R1 I think.
In France, DS3 R1 for junior championship, and Twingo R1 in a French Cup Renault Challenge.
I think that in tje BRC there will be a class for R1 cars.

Interesting. the car is much closer to the Adam Cup philosophy than the previous R1 cars since it has sequential gearbox and LSD. It's not cheap but it shall be also much quicker than the DS3 R1.
Checked elsewhere and apparently R1 rules got a huge change for 2019: only one class (no more A/B); more freedom on engine tuning and the use of not original (free in same cases) major components on the transmission, suspension and brakes. They’re now a sort of light R2.
