You're wasting yoru breath on him though. If I remember correctly he once said "What would Microsoft know about games" to which I replied "They've only made games for ages, joysticks, steering wheels and last but not least the OPERATING SYSTEM on which most games are played........
If someone wants to buy a Sony product because they want to buy a Sony product that's fine but to ignore the fact that the 360 is cheaper, just as good and comes with an established online community is sheer lunacy in my opinion.
I just built the following system for £285 quid
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (only bought it because CPU prices will be falling even further in July ;) )
Asus P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi
2Gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800
Following parts were reused from my old system
Antec P180 case
Antec NeoHE 550w PSU
Logitech G15 keyboard and G5 mouse
ATI X300 128mb card (getting a replacement in the next week or so as I could afford it when I built the PC)
So with the addition of a X1950 XT I have a PC which costs 10 quid more than a 60gb PS3 and does a lot more.
I always always always say to people if they are considering buying a console "If your PC is less than a year old spend that money on your PC and it will be much much much better than that console you want to buy" or sell your PC and put the money from that together with the money you were going to spend on a console and you'll get a kickarse PC!!!!!
What are your system specs Helstar? :)
This was a terrible sucky game.
Amazing graphics, sound and damage physics but its even more arcadish then earlier CMR games.
CRAP GAME
Intel C2D E6600@3300mhz (2400 default) cooled by Zalman 7700 silent mode, mb Asus P5W Deluxe (average overclocker but there was this one or the Intel BadAxe to choose for a Core 2 Duo cpu back in summer 2006 ...), 2GB ddr2 Twinmos, psu OCZ Powerstream 420W, hard disks WD Raptor 74GB for the OS + Samsung 500GB sata2 as storage, videocard Nvidia Geforce 7950gx2. Quite happy about the results I have with this, I can't complain ! (surely not really cheap but I'm an hardware addicted ^^).Quote:

But congrats to the programmers because it has been discovered that it actually uses dual core CPUs (but it fails to work with no SSE2 processors ^^).
Veeeery nice system :)Quote:

If I run into a bit of a wall with games I get a much better CPU cooler and will overclock my E4300 but it seems to be doing fine at the moment :)
Last night I ordered an X1950XT 512 so this system should be able to crush most games now :)
And it looks very nice too :s mokin:Quote:

Physics are weird as hell and playing with anything less than 30 fps is suicide because the car just becomes uncontrollable. But as Helstar said it does appear to utilise dual core from what i could see on the LCD screen on my keyboard :D So that's at least something positive.
I managed to get my copy of DIRT today for the Xbox360, only had chance for about 20mins of play. A quick blast down of 4 stages in a revvy S2000 Grande Punto.
So far so good, I`m liking it, but need more play time for a decent review.
Neil :D
Is the actual game been released now?
Yes but only the xbox and PC version, PS3 owners must wait until Oct 5th :mad:Quote:

Picked up the game yesterday and haven't had too much time to play yet, but first impressions:
- Very different to Forza
- Far more arcade than simulation
- Very nice graphics
- Neat menu system
- Varied races/rallys
- Big career mode
- Fairly easy so far, even upping the difficulty level
- Car handling could and should be better
7/10
So now you've got both Dirt and Forza2... :hmph: ;)Quote:

Graphics and sound are good but quite impressed with the menu as I`m not keen with the menu on Forza2.
I can imagine playing Forza2 still in 12 months time, not sure the same can be said for DIRT and I love rallying. We shall see, hope I`m wrong.
Overall it`s a 7/10 from me too. So far :)
Pino, from where do you have the realease date of 5th October for the PS3 version?
I agree with that. Dirt is very enjoyable to pick up and play for a while, but Forza has far more depth and life in it.Quote:

The pacenote is so bad, I rely on it since I don't use onscreen arrows, left six, left right, its just very counterintuitive. The worse has to be the control, over sensitive and just couldn't get it right. I was also looking for the option to turn of the hdr lighting but there wasn't.Quote:

Okay, I gave it another try after watching a few youtube videos on it. This time is much better experience because I messed around with the controller filters and greatly reduced the oversteering. It feels like they try to make the car slides less to make it easier, but it also makes the handbrake not helping the back of the car swing as much. I think the car stays on the air too much for wow factor. I also gave the multiplayer a try and I have to admit they improved the organization on it very much. I can't get used to that bad pacenotes reading. I might pick it up if I can find a cheaper used copy on ebay, but I'm not willing to pay full price for this. But here is a youtube video for those interested: http://youtube.com/watch?v=RFP02mA4HxY
Don't have an XBOX 360 or PS3, even if I did don't think I'd buy this game. It seems like a sell out to the Yank market, what's with the American co-driver? Less Rallying in it than before, sorry no thanks, I'll stick with the other McRae games. Remember the first one from 1998, fantastic game, awesome stages.
That video of the game looks awful, the steering wheel doesn't even move :s Hope it's better when it's on PS3!
OOps only just realised that was a video of the Demo! Maybe the real game is better?
I am slowly starting to love the game even though it leaves much to be desired!
I have uploaded a video from a crash I had at Pikes Peak to my homepage here: http://jtl-media.com/rally/
Again.. Does anybody here know how to extract .pssg files? I am dying to start modding the game!
The co-driver is American? Thats a complete p1ss take! I wont be buying it when i get a 360.
The co-driving was best on CMR2 when you were given a distance-gear-direction. They seemed to simplify it on the rest. although CMR4 co-driver was good, (even though I didn't own that game)
Maybe he was only American in the Demo? Hopefully they have Nicky Grist for us?
No Nick Grist mate, only the american codriver also in the game :Quote:

crazy isn't it ? :s
Who cares. No need for racism. As long as the co-driver can be heard and give the right notes I don't care if he has a russian, italian, spanish or whatever accent.
Thankfully no Nicky Grist either ;)
There`s still plenty of wrong and late notes. You do get used to the co-driver eventually. The handling is pants, not enough sliding about and the brakes, heck, more like an F1 car on tarmac than a rally car on gravel. I cant slate it too much because I actually like it and it`s great fun afterall.
I cant beleive some of you are still playing those old crappy CMR 2/3/4 games.
Move on with the times ;) :)
I will always love cmr04. So is old movie and music.
That's just me turning off the drivers model and all the "need for speed" effects, it looks ridiculous with the drivers hand though because with keyboard he swings the wheel all over the places. I'm not racist, just the codriver has a bad voice with no tone and the pacenotes are very bad. No I won't get use to it, there's something else special about the pacenotes reading other than just reading it aloud.Quote:

I've read the game review and contrary to what I thought about the multiplayer, it is actaully very limited.
What racism ? I personally think that an american codriver isn't the most appropriate to put in a rally game, especially if it's a Colin McRae game...it's very annoying and irritating ! Nothing to do with racism...Quote:

I bet if it was always Britney Spears doing the pace notes people would complain if Nicky Grist started doing them. I just bought Dirt and the co-driver is fine......Quote:

The graphic is amazing, but that doesnt mean **** if the feeling is ****.
Its worse then the WRC games, older CMR games and RBR.
Ill uninstall it and wait for future if someone could come with a RBR handling mod for this game and get rid of this arcad feeling.
I'll go against the general opinion and say that I think the handling is OK. It's nowhere near as bad as the WRC series where you have to make a conscious effort to have an accident and the car is just on rails. The handling is nothing to write home about but it's not really that bad. I don't like how the cars handle over bumps at all though.
Co-driver is fine. Other than the fact that they've sometimes got the notes a little late and sometimes he seems to call out about 300 notes at once and you're trying to listen for the last note and you've forgotten what the first one is and you crash :p
I'm playing the PC version so perhaps the handling is a bit better on the PC version?
I'm not gonna bother with this game, the cars sound awful, they look like they handle on rails, you have a stupid ridiculous sounding american co-driver and tbh this is probably an even worse game than Tommi Makkinen Rally!
Just to add well done Codies for further f*cking up the Colin McRae game line.
