have you got times ?
The turbo was blown 5k's before the finnish, so I guess the time is'nt to good? The times are being publish later..
ok ;)
1.Monster... 10.15.368
2.Grönholm... 11.28.963
3.Rennison.. 12.11.561
Unofficial!!!!
Division: Unlimited
Driver Name Number Vehicle 1) Glen Cove 2) Sixteen Mile 3) Finish Line
Nobuhiro Tajima 1 2009 Suzuki SX4 1) 04:34.100 2) 07:08.458 3) 10:15.368
Marcus Grönholm/Timo Alanne 3 2009 Ford Fiesta 1) 04:50.397 2) 07:34.078 3) 11:28.963
Mark Rennison 200 1984 Ford RS200 1) 05:26.302 2) 08:25.241 3) 12:11.561
Seeing all three times it actually doesn’t matter if and where "Bosse" had a blown turbo. "Monster" was always faster.
They better find the torque for next year, otherwise no chances against Tajima's specially built car.
2009 PPIHC OVERALL RESULTS (CARS ONLY!)
1. Nobuhiro Tajima (J), Suzuki SX4 (Unlimited Class), 10:15:368
2. Paul Dallenbach (USA), Chevy Open Wheeler (Open Wheel Class), 10:52:097
3. Jimmy Keeney (USA), Greenwood-Hull K-Tech 2 (Open Wheel Class), 11:03:551
4. Spencer Steele (USA), Ford Wells Coyote (Open Wheel Class), 11:08:535
5. Marcus Grönholm (FIN), Ford Fiesta Mk7 (Unlimited Class), 11:28:963
6. Clint Vahsholtz (USA), Ford Mustang 2002 (Super Stock Car Class), 11:39:662
Well, I find myself sitting here with a slight smug look on my face after seeing the results.
To me it seemed that there was a lack of respect from the Europeans pre-event.
It was quoted more than once that the 10 minute mark shouldn't be hard to beat by both teams (The Fiesta's and the RS200), Almost dissing Monster and the fact that he hasn't accomplished it yet.
Example Mark Rennison - "Rennison is confident that he and the RS200 can be the first pairing to finish the 12-mile 156-turn course in les than 10 minutes: “If everything on the day goes right and the weather conditions are good beating the 10-minute barrier shouldn’t be a problem".
It came as no surprise that in the end they didn't get close, nor that they were ill prepared (no set up, wrong tyres, wrong engine configuration etc).
Teams and individuals get more respect from keeping their intentions quiet, getting the job done, and THEN talking it up.....

Absolutely agree Cannyboy. It's the Holy Grail of Hillclimbing. Having been once in '05 and had a great time, would love to revisit.
To us, the cars that stood out the most were the open wheelers. From the outside they just don't look as if they are anywhere near the right vehicle for the event (bet Gronholm etc thought the same), but they get the job done, and look and sound great doing it.
The other thing we couldn't get our heads around were the tyres. For all intents and purposes an outsider would swear you had to be running proper rally tyres after looking at the hill. But luckily we followed local advice and ran BFG's as per Rhys & Rod Millens advice.
As you say, hopefully it will have only made them hungrier to come back and do it right next time.
and that is how you get creamed in the US.....
All talk and no show by ford and the rally boys.....
I'm dissapointed but quite happy though, because Ford didn't approach it seriously
I think he likes it! :D
In an interview on Speed Channel's "Wind Tunnel", Markus gives his own account of Pike's Peak, and is looking forward to coming back. :)
Without going to Colorado in due time for pre-testing they will never go any far.
There is NOTHING over here in Europe where you can get enough experience to race at such an altitude and of all those problems coming with it.

Wider selections will be posted on my personal site in the next day or three....
someone find video of the Race ?

I think that is the main point. You can't just turn up and expect to go quick, etc It has to be a proper programme.Quote:

Some of the best drivers in the world haven't been able to piece together Pikes Peak.Quote:

You need to develop an understanding of the mountain as much as have the car set up right.... If you know how the mountain changes when things do change, you can be much much faster, that is where Monster has the advantage...
yeah, Monster is a guru! :) You can see it in the way he sets up his car for every turn, and just throws it into next corner...
Grönholm looked like an amateur..
I hope this was sarcasm ... oh wait ... it was!! :DQuote:

I've seen the videos and Monster is not that bad if we compare his lines on gravel to Bosse's ones. He only appears a little bit slow in the tarmac corners ... I didn't know there were so many parts in tarmac, that's a pity :| they should have leaved everything in gravel IMHO !Quote:

I agree! Lack of Imagination...Too bad...Quote:

The 2009 PPIHC entry was part of Ford’s PR programme to introduce the Fiesta Mk7 in the USA in 2010, thought out by Jost Capito. Therefore, I guess that Ford is also behind the video, to show the Americans moving pics of a tiny but very sportive car. However, just in case Grönholm had won and was able to do a time under the magic 10 minutes mark, as somewhat blue-eyedly bragged before even leaving Europe, it would have been a much bigger event than Vatanen beating Röhrl’s 1987 time by just half a second in 1988…Quote:
