It is the turn of M-Sport Ford team principal Rich Millener to answer our questions as he leads the British squad towards this weekend’s FIA World Rally Championship restart event at Rally Estonia.
Q. What about Rally Estonia? How are things shaping up?
A. We’re just absolutely delighted to be back rallying again. This sport is everything to us and as much as anything, we’ve missed being out there in the competition.
Q. It’s been a tough time for your team recently…
A. It’s not been easy for anybody, that goes without saying. But these months through lockdown and since then have been pretty horrendous to be honest. It’s no secret that things have been – and still are – really tough at M-Sport. Some difficult decisions have been made, but they’ve been made for one single reason – to bring the company and the team through this crisis in the strongest shape possible.
Q. What can we expect from the team this week?
A. Not testing in Estonia is really not ideal for us, but it’s a case of cutting our cloth right now. That said, the guys have all spent time in the car. Gus and Teemu were both in Greystoke last week and obviously EP was over doing the event in south Estonia. That’s all good. What can we expect from them? Let’s see. A couple of Finns in a couple of quick Fiestas down a fast bit of road… there’s definitely the potential for a result.
Naturally, we always want to win. That’s what we’re in this sport for and when you’ve been on the top of the world, it hurts when you’re not there. A win would be amazing, but we’d be pretty chuffed with a podium as well.
