I cant believe I go away for a week and a half and NO ONE mentioned on here on who won the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! The Canadians normally wouldn't mention it because we realize the best players are often still in the NHL playoffs or licking wounds from being eliminated from them. The Euros however are silent...mmmmm would that be because CANADA WON!!!!!!!!!
I was stuck in the US, and you don't get even get box scores of the NHL in some newspapers. So I had no idea until I got the newspaper in Windsor on Wednesday and saw a reference to it. Gotta like that......shame on you guys for not making some note of it.
Tomi, as for the whereabouts of Bobby Orr, he lives mainly in Boston, where he runs his player agency. He took it over after apprenticing under famous sports agent Bob Woolf. Woolf died in the late 90's and Orr took over the hockey side of the business. It is ironic the one player who was hurt so much by Alan Eagleson became an agent himself, but it makes the story of Orr probably more intriguing.
Orr's story is a cautionary tale to what happens to hockey players who don't pay attention to the business side of the equation when the big pay checks roll in. He has a rudimentry high school education, and he trusted Eagleson implicitily and was basically out of a career and broke in the late 70's through this. He took his fame, and the opportunity of being well known in Boston through his hockey exploits, to become a successful businessman and did a lot of work for charity in Boston, and back home here in Ontario. He is a very private guy, but I do know that he always goes back to Parry Sound Ontario where he grew up for visits and I am sure he has a cottage up there, but he remains based mainly in Boston.
I am envious Tomi, he is my hockey hero and yet I haven't managed to meet him....
