In fact, it was his debut in a WRC car and the first time he ran in Wales. Besides, he won the first stage of the rally (SS2, since SS1 was cancelled). Sainz did the same in 1987 in Portugal winning the opening stage in his first WRC event. He even won another stage before the turbo failed on day 1 of the rally, so he had to retire.
