Rest In Peace Franco Ballerini.
RIP Franco "Ballero" Ballerini
So sad... :(
RIP
I don't know Franco, but it is so sad that these tragedies can still happen in rallying. His friends and family should be proud of his courage as a rally driver - it isn't safe and requires a lot of skill and courage. RIP Franco and all the best to his family and friends.
Really sad news :(
The car doesn't look extremely damaged. For sure the driver's compartment is untouched. It reminds me a bit a crash of Aghini when his co-driver died few years a go. They say Franco died later in hospital, so it probably wasn't because of broken neck (a question of using HANS), so probably some internal injury, maybe not enough fastened seat belts. For sure strange...

Very sad news :(
R.I.P Franco
Bad news. He was not only a co-driver, but also a great cyclist. R.I.P. Franco.
He was the selector of the Italian national cyclist team
R.I.P.
New car for... Gianfranco Cunico and Luigi Pirollo!

According to Autoklub.pl Basso will stay with Fiat and Travaglia is in negotiations with Ford. Good luck! Ford has great history in Italian rallying. Anybody remembers the Martini-backed Jolly Club Escorts?
Aghini was in.. Remember him on 1000 Miglia SSS 1997 when he kicked concrete barrier with that ford..
Malcolm himself drove one of the Martini cars in San Remo. Which team is being linked with a Fiesta programme?
I have no clue which team is in question here. I think it is still too early. However, I keep my fingers crossed for Travaglia, one of my favourite Italian drivers.
Didn't know Aghini was driving Ford. When I think of those great Jolly Club Escorts from the nineties, I always see Cunico...

It is the Motus team,official
With the Motus team, probably Travaglia and Scandola
Also Michelini with an A-Style Fiesta ;)
CIR is going to be very interesting ;)
Maybe You're right.. I was in Bergamo watching 1000 Miglia rally that 1997 on RAI TV and was live SSS.. What a days.. :)Quote:

So it must have been someone else who hit a wall on SS1. It doesn't resemble Aghini to crash on the first stage :)
I agree.. It was right rear..
Why Scandola again finds a team? He always crashes, so it's a waste of money and car...Quote:

I haven't found anything official about drivers for Ford Italia ! Just speculations for now...About drivers: at the moment are in Italy at least five, six young, very promising drivers without contract-Michelini, Medici, Gamba, Ceccoli, Broccoli, Scandola....and a bit older too(Cantamesa, Bizzari), so antyhing can happen...But Travaglia should deserve a seat in Fiesta S2000, that is 100% correct!
I know it's only a rumour and I hope that is only true in 50% (Travaglia). I forgot about Bizzarii, he was fast in his Clio S1600. What is he doing right now? He was not active in CIR 2009?
I found out he was driving Clio R3 in TRA.
Stefano Bizzari won last year Clio R3 Trophe in Italy!!
Stefano Bizzarri is already a rally veteran, I think he is about 40 years old, so it will be difficult for him to find a good team. But I agree, he is a great driver, I remember him from 2006 in this white and green Clio S1600!

So, Skoda is free?
Ucci still in official Peugeot, Rossetti and Basso in Abarth, Cunico in Fiat, Travaglia is talking with Ford, Longhi in Peugeot, Cantamessa is (???) with private Peugeot... all the big names are already taken?
Yes, it looks like Skoda Italia can forget title ambitions on their home soil. In the moment they have programs in IRC and Hungary only afaik.
You forgot about Poland.Quote:

Edit: but bad news to me, Abarth with Rox and Basso TWO reliable and fast drivers :mark:
Today Abarth published officialy their drivers for CIR 2010-both Basso and Rossetti will be the strongest duel in this attractive championship. Grande Punto S2000 may not be a good rival against 207&Fabia&Fiesta's in IRC or SWRC, but on their home soil the story is quite opposite. Especialy as their closest rival Andreucci is running with Pirellis and we all know, Pirelli is slower tyre in hot conditions against BFs, so that Punto with two fast drivers will definitely stole points from Paolo Andreucci.
Thank god for gravel races-there is Andreucci the one and the only, without competition.....
However, we should have in consider, that this year Abarth participation is yust a semi-factory project: Trico Motorsport will take care on logistics and service.
It used to be that way for a long time. Just Procar or Grifone is changed for Trico.
True, but you can not compare Trico to Grifone&Procar, as they are a very experienced teams, with a long history, a lot of international wins...I heard for Trico yust in conjunction with Marko Bernardeli and Travaglia drove G.Punto from this team on a few races, but with no bigger success (compared to P207, which he rented later by Friulimotors).Quote:
