Tidemand said he´s driving for the championship now, when loosing contact after puncture. Very wise, I should say.
Did Kopecky said he had a puncture on this stage? Or he about Panzerplatte?
about Panzerplatte said.
Sat 19:01 - SS17: WRC 2 Kopecky
Second in WRC 2 but still ruing the Panzerplatte puncture that robbed him of the lead. "What positive can I take from today? Well, I'm making less mistakes than I'm getting punctures. It's incredible. Just bad luck."
Weather prediction for tomorrow?
To answer myself from the morning:
- Tanak was surprisingly good on dry tarmac. Compared with most others he gained due to tires in the morning, but Ogier had same tires and still Tanak was at least as fast if not faster.
- C3 on dry tarmac (vs cars with same tires) was good/very good but after some of the hype (originating mostly from Citroen) it clearly wasn't much faster than the other cars in the hands of any of the 3 drivers.
- we didn't get to see Neuville there
- Hanninen again surprisingly good (even though he gained a lot as the only guy with hard tires in the morning) and Breen not as fast as expected (see C3 comment), but Breen also has minimal experience in Germany (only two times and never in WRC)
Additional observations:
- really hard to tell how much Ogier was pushing and how much he was playing it safe
- Lappi got some hard feedback about tarmac speed, not unexpectedly
- Sordo won 3 stages, but still overall for the day still not very fast even compared with cars on same tires, based on that I doubt he could have charged for win
Breen had like three overshoots today alone. He seems quite lost on these roads.
Don't forget that Sordo had full soft tyres for 1st pass a Panzerplatte where they didn't work properly
Finally got to watch Neuville's onboard and it doesn't seem so mythical after all.
He starts to go sideways on power while left wheel is still in the cut. Wouldn't really blame him, most others took same cut, but it seems to explain what happened.
------------
As had everyone except Tanak, Ogier, Paddon and Hanninen.
After Finland, the Finns were invincible, what are the Finns now? Looks like they play on ice like Bambi.
- Latvala lost 2 mins with puncture, without that his total was about 10 ahead of Sordo.
- Mikkelsen lost 13 with the two mistakes, without that he would be 17 ahead of Sordo for the leg.
Sure it's not like Sordo is much behind, that's basically same speed and maybe slightly pointless comparison. Probably just an overreaction of mine to the TV commentators saying how Sordo would win without the off yesterday.
Heiko Maas, Minister of Justice in Germany, co-driving with Kevin Abbring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksq3czb3P3g
I´m really surprised to see Kevin in an official M-Sport-Fiesta! I thought he is still an official Hyundai driver (doing roll outs etc.). But obviously he is not?
official WRC site lists Meeke on the retirements list
EDIT: also here http://int-media.citroen.com/en/mikkelsen-hangs-tough/
From Citroën press realese:
Meeke: ...We won't be rejoining under Rally2 rules tomorrow for three reasons: we don't want to run the risk of damaging the engine, Paul's wife gave birth to a baby boy this afternoon and we've nothing to gain from contesting the last four short stages."
And Tänak proofs me wrong. We have missed a battle for championship so Ogier was holding off. But Tänak did an amazing job today, again.
Was thinking this day at the days when I start following rally and see in Tänak more and more a new Märtin. I hope for you Estonians, Tänak can finish the job Märtin started and make possible for him. But is to early for that. Fingers crossed for tomorrow stages.
Apart from competing in Monte-Carlo for Hyundai, he has been just driving a Peugeot competitively, you´re right. But I´m pretty sure I saw an Instagram story some weeks ago with him testing an official Hyundai rally car! The one doesn't exclude the other, you know...
Hell no, there's not single bit of irony there. Trashtalk it sure is, but I'm quite sure we're gonna back it up in the near future.
Btw, sorry to let you down, but regaring the "beating"... we've taken more WRC medals than any other country during the 15 years you mentioned.
That made me remember Gronholm :)
