Even if there were no weather issues, there is always the looming risk that stages will be cancelled due to spectator problems; which is more of a concern now, than ever, with the safety mandates in place. So, if the organisers had split the stages, there would be 2 medium length stages to be ruined / cancelled rather than just 1 long one. Which ever way you look at it, less stages means increased risk of loosing huge mileage.

Agree. But maybe it is better to have some variety so it could be good to have a rally with less but long stages, but it should be done in places with wider roads and with no risks that crazy spectators stay in dangerous places or that a huge amount of them goes to spectate. Also, you should give spectators the possibility to watch at least two passes per day.

It's simple. If You want to have long stages You must have long rally to affect it least possible by cancellation of one or two.

It's not only about spectators or weather. The organizers shall also think about crews from down the field. It's not uncommon to have stages canceled due to accidents. It's definitely more common than drunk people on the road or floods. Those "nameless" crews also pay the entry fee. In this moment they are penalized by many ways - by unfair superally, by totally idiotic notional times etc. Someone shall think about them too or one day all rallies will have 25 crews like Australia this year.

Right, I spoke about wider roads for this reason, because in narrow places (like Corsica) it is more likely that stage cancellations and notional times could happen. And yes if you want long stages you should have long rally, Corsica is barely 300kms, while other rallyes like Sardinia for example were more than 400kms with not too long stages.
