Schmenke, if you had to suffer through an owner as inept as Harold Ballard, you wouldn't be so smug, and remember this also. The Habs are unlikely to win another for another 14 years as well. You guys were just plain lucky, and unlike some Habs fans, you are actually from Montreal. The Hab's fans I deal with grew up around here, and just locked onto a winning team as kids because they didn't have gumption to just cheer for the team in their own town......I have little time for THAT.
I wasn't trying to be smug :mark:
Yes, I was born and raised in Montreal, and as a kid I remember attending games in the old Montreal Forum, watching Lafleur with Lemaire and Shutt flying down the ice, with the Robinson and Savard on defence. Man, that was something special! The atmosphere was overwhelming! Loyalties are built up from experiences like that. How can I NOT be a Habs fan!
No matter where I live, my alegiance will always be intact ; :D
i remember guy lafleur too, he was very good skater.Quote:

Apparently the two of them had similar pre game routines, and it only was a problem because both of them liked having the dressing room to themselves and the ice in the afternoons to themselves.
Schmenke, even I had a soft spot for those late 70's Hab's teams, since I liked Robinson as much as I liked Orr in many ways, and he was the guy I tried to emulate playing myself. Of course, I didn't have his talent, but hey, a kid dreams don't he? I especially enjoyed the @ss kicking they gave the Flyers to win that first cup of the 4. I wasn't a big Hab's fan, like I said, but man, I loved seeing the Flyers get put down like rabid dogs. My dislike of Bobby Clarke and the Flyers has continued to this day, and they may be the one team I would always cheer for the Habs over!!!
Have you guys heard anything about the negotiations of possible Victoria Cup ?? What I heard they have a dream to make a three team cup where two of the teams comes from Europe and the third would be Stanley Cup holder. I find it very interesting as we could really see the level of European team hockey comparing to NHL.
Also, they have some sort of plans to build up a champions league in Europe, which they have already tried a few times but this time the model should be taken from soccer champions league. That at least has proved to be very succesfull consept. I guess this time, to make it really work, the reward money is in the different league than it used to be. That should motivate the national top teams to participate.
if I'm not totally wrong, they might use the champuons league finalists to take part to Victoria Cup which I mentioned earlier. I'm not just sure if NHL is interested of this plan :mark:
Bit of IIHF championships for a change.
Semifinal games are:
Russia - Finland
Canada - Sweden
I can't believe USA didn't win Finland today, our team gave the four goals to work with.
Lehtonen was in good form today, i almost for got his 7 goals few weeks ago. :)
Is Bobby Orr still living near Toronto? I met him once in my friends sport shop, he was here promoting CCM skates, he is a nice guy, pity he had so bad knees.Quote:
