There are no manufacturers left. Hyundai is 1,5 feet out and without support from Ford and RB, M-Sport can do very little. Nobody is coming. Rally 1s are done.

Sorry but Thierry has been dead awful since his title win
This was embarrassing
I'm talking about if WRC top category would become Rally2 cars. Of course there are more of them, but since it's primary customer focused car for so many years now and a very successfull one, at this point it doesn't make any easier to adopt it. Yes, maybe for a year, since there will be nobody ready, because everyone is waiting FIA and promoter thing. And when they will know, probably someone will join the sport and it will take around 2 years to be really ready. So adapting Rally2 cars intil then could be a good thing. But for a long term, not so, because it would happen exactly as I suggested - either upgrade their own cars and provide customers with older ones or leave.
Many brands of Rally2 does not make a World Championship as general consumer entertainment. All the answers point to better individual rallies for already hardcore rally fans. Be prepared for the series to spiral inwards and simple signs like the cost of Rally TV to triple for fewer live coverage.
Individual events are great but what's the championship story...

So shrink the calendar to 7 events in Europe? Oh wait we have achieved ERC.
