Close fight at the top this time but I couldnt feel any pressure, like I've already watched this movie several times. When Latvala and Solberg drive normally they are firmly behind, same as Mikelsen. Good job by Tanak. Kruda too.
Congratulations to Jonas Lindroos winner of the 2WDs field :)
Loeb-there are no words that could describe his achievements. Sometimes you start wondering, where all his motivation comes from....And again a day of mourning for all Finish fans-all their theories about the Finns as the best drivers in the world are crumbling in the dust. Pitty for them.....Defeat on a home soil hurts the most.
Still, a lot was happening behind Loeb, a lot of accidents, thanks to god nowebody was injured, happy for Proton, special congrats to Nikara.....
Roll on to the Germany-Loeb's land!!
The majority of true Finnish rally fans will be happy because the wins Loeb has came by true driving... There is no shame in defeat from a superior opponent, only pride since you need a good opponent (like Hirvonen) to bring the best performance out of of the winnerQuote:

The Rally itself was great. Ford are disappointment whole year, now no one break/crashed, just slower. It was Citroen's Rally to loose, but both drivers did perfect job, especially Loeb.Quote:

I'm dead tired. Ouninpohja got the best of me. I'll get back once I resurrect.

I couldn't help it... I had to go to Ouninpohja, Mutasen mutka to be exact. The place is over the crest short downhill and 90 left. Up to Petter, all the guys bumped brakes there on that short downhill. What did Petter and Loeb? They came sideways óver the crest and the whole downhill and as they reached the 90 degree turn, they were already in position to go straight... Yet another tenth of seconds there on that short travel. Latvala also took that turn with caution. Mikko had some pace there but took it very clean way. I also watched the powerstage there but the location I was spectating wasn't anything special.
Congrats Sebastien and Daniel. They had a good start with lead and they just pushed the necessary amount of speed they needed. Loeb is such a gentleman he said that he had to take risks but personally I don't believe it. I believe he had the control all the time and pushed just to keep the gap safe. This year ti was clear after day one that either one of Mikko ja Jari-Matti was not a challenge enough :mark:
I'm very happy about Lappi but I won't jump up and down anymore here on the forum as I noticed the cheering will turn against him :s
Is it safe to say but was this year's NORF a little lame ?? If it wasn't Mikko there wasn't much of fights except S2000.
It requires very special skills to do that, what a scene. The little things on each corner that make all the difference at the end...Quote:

Same! Just arrived home at Helsinki, enough driving this weekend :)Quote:

Very, very impressive - just compare his times to that of Ogiers............Quote:

Very brave effort from Breen. I hope we see much more of him.
Great showing by Lappi. Yes, NOT is correct. Most countries would boast a number of drivers who could hold their own in equal machinery on their home track. But that ought not detract from what was a very specatcular and talented effort and deriding comments are not warranted. Let's hope we see more of him too.
SWRC is now wide open. This'll be where the interest lies in the remaining few rounds surely.
Cant believe I've missed the coverage of this event, I swear the only people who have had longer shifts than me are the spectators like Hartsvouri! And the marshalls of course :)
Well done to Loeb, the best man won. I was a bit dissapointed it couldn't be a Finn that was on top here though :(
Looking forward to seeing the onboards anyway, especially of this Lappi who I keep hearing about!
Is it just me, or was this a really short rally? Glancing through the stage lengths, with the exception of the last 2 stages, the average stage length seems to be about 12kms. That seems ridiculous to me. I know Loeb is against returning to longer, endurance type rallies (ie: the true nature and original intent of the sport), but these stages are so short, you might as well be racing round a circuit.
I thought that aswel. I heard they stop the event on saturday night instead of sunday night so the crazy spectators have a day of rest on sunday to recover from all the beer they have drank on friday and saturday....But I dont know if this is true or just hear'say! :DQuote:

What the hell is up with the Fords?? Just didn't seem to have to setup/pace, I thought they were the quickest car. Have to wait for GB now, hope Jari-Matti Latvala can get some wins. Bring on VW next year, hopefully spice it up with Mr Ogier!!
Conspiracy theory #3448832: Malcolm held Ford works drivers on a tight leash this rally due to pressure from Ford/his bank manager to not have cars drop out/back because of driver error. Please discuss.
Also, someone might like to check when was the last time that both cars completed a rally without incident - seems like at least a year ago to me!
I was there 2007 and i was there yesterday. Was about 10 meters from where the car ended.Quote:

Might be wrong but I think they said that they didn't earn any profit on Sunday because people were returning home or sth.Quote:

Great rally otherwise but thought there was less people than previous years?
I think this is the way Citroen goes, some Rallies ago threatened Hirvonen they will remove his handbrake (joking :D ).Quote:

And in 2WD class some good results also from foreign guys, Dubert from France and Koci from Slovakia, their stage times were totally respectable against 2WD top who have driven here years before.
For the rest, rally was zero. I really look forward to get a proper R2 or R3 world championship if this does not get any better. It seems that in 2WD classes there may be up to ten guys fighting for podium, cars are much more interesting to follow than for example GrN.
Only followed this rally casually online, so some questions:
- Was this Neuville's first time in Finland? Times were very impressive before the crash.
- Was Ketomaa on D-Macks? His times were really disappointing.
- Why does it seem that Finns are better in Sweden than they are at home? Are Rally Sweden conditions more difficult to adapt to for a non-Scandinavian that those in Finland. Ok, they didn't exactly do badly here but Mikko was beaten by his team mate and even though he managed to not crash for a change Latvala was barely quicker that Solberg.
++ Nikara. Amazing speed with that old evo 9 whale. Consistently beating top S2000 drivers and even some WRC drivers.
+ Lappi. Expectations were high and he was great. He has great potential and good that it has been noticed as he just made a contract with Even Rally.
+ Loeb. The master. What else can you say. It's not his fault if the championship is going to be little bit boring. Citroen gave Mikko a fair chance to win but somehow the master was able to squeeze those foew seconds when needed. As NOT mentioned true Finnish rally fans have great respect for him.
+ Neuville. Good speed vs. experience.
- Salo. It seems that he was not able to adapt to S2000 after ~13(!) years with Mitsubishi Lancer.
- Factory Ford / Ford drivers. They seemed to miss that last bit of something. For example we were at Lankamaa's end in a fast crest+bend combination. Citroens cut hard, drove straight and applied brake when approacing the bend so that they were able to stay straight around the corned. Both Fords drove sideways and were visibly slower. They did not apply brake but let the car go much more sideways. Impossible to say is it the car or driving style, setup etc. issue.
Funny accident during weekend: We were staying at friends cottage at Laukaa. Before our arrival (maybe wednesday or thursday) certain gentleman arrived to the cottage asking wheather he could park his boat to the shore and watch the rally with us by the cottage. The cottage is just by the stage. Only my friends sister was there then (does not watch rally) and she said that's not maybe a good idea as she does not own the cottage etc. etc....later we heard that this gentleman had been Juha Kankkunen. What a pity! :D
