Italy didn't show much in the first half, Paraguay matched them in the midfield pretty well, concidering Italy was the champion last time around. Second half was better for Italian. but not a level where they should be.

Of the bigger countries, sofar only Germany seemed to play at a high level, maybe Spain and Brazil wil show some good effort.

You too must have watched a different game than I have :p : As for Germany, with all respect for Australia, Paraguay is much much stronger (South America WC Qualy finals says that) plus Australia played one man down. Anyway I still think Lippi is an idiot but I am quite satisfied about Italy performance :)

When I posted I was talking about the first half. I guess that you watched it through a big pair of Italian rose-tinted spectacles because you offered nothing in the first half. Italy had the ball more but never really threatened much. There were corners but they came to nothing and the keeper was barely troubled.

It was always going to be a close game though, Paraguay parked themselves in front of the goal and Italy are usually fairly tight at the back (ooh matron).

I'm not saying that Italy were awful (they'd walk all over England), just that they didn't really do a lot in the first half.

NZ last minute equaliser!!! From what I've seen of the dying minutes it was well deserved, especially as the Slovakian goal was offside. Shouldn't have been left so late though, they missed an absolute sitter about 5 minutes before.

Still they got their reward for some good pressure and Slovakia paid the price of trying to soak it up.

well done new zealand! fully deserved for them, slovakia poor.

as for ivory coaast vs portugal:yawn.

there's been a distinct lack of goals so far this world cup. hopefully it will get better.

You might want to take out the video cassette from 06 finals, and start watching live games. ;)

Australia wasn't very good, but they weren't as bad as you make them out to be, with guys like Lahm, germany should and could slice through most defenses with relative ease.

I must agree about first half, the problem was Marchisio playing in a wrong position. Stupid Lippi should've played Di Natale in that position, eventhough the best man there would've been Cassano, but he's not in the squad :mad:

I am watching 2006 finals almost everyday :p : And who said Australia were bad ? not me ;)
