How did Katomaa find the Mirage vs the Ford?
I haven't heard any interview with Ketomaa comparing Mitsubishi to Ford. Paid drivers normally don't do that. Ketomaa's pace with Mitsubishi was surprisingly good. He finished 4th overall, 48 seconds behind Salo who had a clean run and had to step on it a bit to keep Veiby behind. Ketomaa lost huge chunk of time on SS2 due to snow ploughing. On Saturday stages he lost only 0,23s/km to Salo, running first on the road, Salo second. I was positively surprised on the performance of the car, considering the car's background.
Kristian Kiviniemi had his debut in DS3 R5, but his run was troubled by rear brake problems and he eventually retired after SS6. I'm expecting him to join fight for victories on gravel rallies.
Ketomaa said that he had engine problems on SS2.
“No power. It works ok for 10 sec but then the engine is dead.”
Jarkko Nikara was leading by 7,1 sec after SS5 but retired on SS6. Official reason was technical but from a Finnish forum it was puncture.

SS6 was live today (00 car @ 11:40)

Are you sure? I read Ketomaa's comments (in Polish) here:
http://rajdy.autoklub.pl/news/salo-u...eiby-emu,66363
He says Mitsubishi R5 needs further development, but he hopes to continue driving this car.
Nikara went off road on SS6 and tyre fell off the rim. Apparently some other technical issue occured too plus he lost a lot of time on SS6. He's driving on the limit all the time. Very spectacular. It's just that he'd someone to sponsor his driving. He's damn good, but there's no point really just to beat that Green Ol' Warhorse and retire in the end...
Are the snow conditiions more consistent in Finland than Sweden? Would the winter WRC rally be better to be held in Finland as well as NORF in summer?
I we would like to have winter rally in Finland with 100% snowy conditions it should be in Rovaniemi at Arctic Rally. It's 50/50 if in southern Finland..
Like Co-Fin said, only far North for 100% certainty. During Rally Sweden, conditions were worse in Finland halfway down than they were in Hagfors region. Rallies were cancelled. Then again, not every year does Rally Sweden have problems with weather, same as in Finland, some winters are better than others. At the moment conditions are the best, but it can change drastically in three, four days if temperatures would go up.

I will follow Juuso Nordgren (208 R2) who destroyed the opposition on Vaakuna rally. Do Finnish members agree he's a got prospect?
Vuorisalo not on the list. Adam Cup Germany in 2016?
Impressive weekend from Even’s drivers: Veiby 2nd in Finland just 2,3s behind Salo and Kristoffersson (Fabia S2000) 2nd in Norway just 7,9s behind Grondal! It’ll be interesting to follow if he gets serious about rallying!
Nice rally from Ketomaa and the Mirage. It’s a shame not seeing the car homologated.

Veiby faster than Nikara and Salo after 2ss.
what cars are they driving?
OC Veiby SKoda won Tahko Ralli. Asunmaa Subaru (SM2) 2nd and Vihavainen Mitsubishi WRC 3rd.
Salo (208 T16 R5), Vainionpää (DS3 R5) and Kiviniemi (DS3 R5) went off the road on the SS 3 and lost a lot of time.
Nikara with the old Evo 9 was once again (3rd round & 3rd time!) leading the rally after the SS 5, but the rear differential broke down and was forced to retire.
Hard to understand how this kind of bad luck is possible, but he has the speed! Hope someone can help him to find some money and hire a R5 car...

It may not be just bad luck. Maybe the N+ istoo strong for the old horse to endure.
or maybe not so good serviced.
Maybe but I don't see anything that strange on drivetrain problems with overpowered gr.N car. It's not especially reliable even with 33 mm restrictor.
I don't agree either. You can have a look in rally results from anywhere in the world. Fact is that gr.N cars are less reliable than purpose-built 4WD cars especially in long and rought events. The most common mechanical problems are definitely those of drivetrain - I would say mostly gearboxes and driveshafts and most of these problems happen on first gear which means it's related to the torque extremum.
For safety reasons, everywhere I went they change the gearbox at the overnight service on Gr.N cars, some wealthier teams even the rear diff. Many times (i.e. especially on evets with a lot of hairpins) even with these precautions the cars are breaking their transmissions a lot of times. But obviously, good maintenance helps this matter, but that's just a part of the deal IMO.
At Acropolis rally they didnt changed diffs and gearboxes every day, even the top teams with winning cars.Maybe 1 time. But that was same for wrc cars also.
To say that they are unreliable after some 20+ years winning championships worldwide at national and world championships is not true.
About the rallies with hairpins i dont agree. If it is inspected, well maintened with right fluids inside, and right preload there is no way to broke after 150-200 stage km.Yes the stress is bigger, specially at asphalt, but a well fixed diff will not have a problem.
Gear boxes are not oem parts but Quaife,Drenth Samsonas etc A fresh serviced one have not problem for 3 days rally at wrc level.
Because is not a sequential, big role plays the guy who uses it for right use.
Two things as Dimviii says:
1) user
2) maintenance
But like to add that a snow rallysurface for me looks more nice to the car than hairpins/tarmacrallies.
Dimitris, as TWRC wrote teams here in CZ also often change differentials in overnight service. Even with the best cars such as Pech's Evo they did so. Many also do other pre-caucious measures such as careful starts into the stage without locked central diff.
The example with Acropolis. You write maybe once. But they can't change them more times as FIA rules don't allow You to have more than one spare (if I'm not mistaken).
so you say that a diff at an evo N car will not cope a regional rally thats why they will change it?
Yes at Acropolis with these restrictions they dont have problem to finish and win rallies.Much more kms than 1 day at regional rallies, much more heat, and much more preload for gravel use.
No, I mean that there have been issues with drivetrain reliability with some 600 Nm of FIA engine hence the frequent pre-caucious changes of the diffs and that the logic tells me that with even higher torque the reliability must be worse. To which extend I can't tell but it can hardly stay same.

By the way are those really Lancers WRC Step.1 used in FRC?
Yes. In FIN R4WD the restrictor size is 35 mm with pump fuel and 34 mm with ethanol.

"The SM(FRC) vehicle classes

SM(FRC)2 or Production4: FIA N, FIA R4 and FIN N4WD
SM(FRC)3 or R2: FIA R1 and FIA R2B cars up to 1600 cc
SM(FRC)4 or Super2: FIA R3 (both R3T and R3D), FIN R2WD and group N up to 2000 cc, Super 1600, and diesel cars in groups N and A
Again, time to exhume this thread.
Finnish rallying championship continues tomorrow with Enset-ralli in Sastamala. Nine stages and all ran once makes it a proper rallying day. Stage mileage is a bit over 100 kilometres. First stage starts already at 9.20 CET (10.20 Finnish time) and first car expected in the finish just before six o'clock. 2WD crews run first, followed by 4WDs and other classes.
No big surprises on the entry list. Nice to have OC Veiby in Fabia R5 continuing in the series. Depending on his success tomorrow, he could hold a chance to challenge for the title very much. Juha Salo is his main opponent. This will be first gravel event in DS3 R5 for Kristian Kiviniemi making it interesting to see how he has gotten used to the car now. Ari Vihavainen must be nominated for one of the top drivers here too. Stages are on large parts very fast, so with his WRC Mitsubishi he has some advantage.
New R5s on the start line are TMR's Japanese drivers Arai and Katsuta starting with MM-Motorsport's Fiesta R5s.
One fast Mitsubishi driver is missing as Jarkko Nikara is not taking part.

I know it's still pretty early, but maybe somewhere I can already find online/updated entry list for Arctic?
https://akk.autourheilu.fi/Public/Ki...id=4844&edit=0 and click "osallistujat". Only two entrants at the moment.
thanx a lot!! who's going there? I should be in Rovaniemi.
