Stewards give meeke 24.7 back after novikov incident now less than 10 behind mikko
lol I didn't see it in the thumbnails. I can fairly say this is the photo of the season up to today

So, Ogier pushed a little in the afternoon, without taking any big risks. Looks like this will be his most cautious win so far, isn't that just amazing
So you don't expect the drivers to screw up the wheel nuts properly also? (As they don't have time to fix it properly...) You can make things safe indeed, and the jacks used in rallycars are quite safe as far as I know. But you can't make everything "idiot-proof". No offense to Meeke, stupid accidents can happen to everyone. Part of the game, no need to put the blame on someone else... :)Quote:

Contains onboard with Mikkos spin, he was very lucky indeed.
Meeke speaks about Novikov-gate, before steward's decision:

Stewards decision is weird. Meeke gets the same time as with SS12, although most of the drivers were at least 5s slower in SS8. A bit to his advantage in the end then.
just opened my laptop at my summer village for 3 week vacations.
still impressive Meeke,Lukyanuk.
not impressive Hanninen,Latvala,Sordo,Hirvonen,Novikov(out of road even slow)
Ogier pushed more and took nice difference bit safe imho.
no it isnt.Impresive will be if he will have 38 sec diff against Loeb at France at end of day2.Quote:

Lots of drivers can be fast, even as fast as Ogier (as we saw in the first half of the SS's here - many different stage winners). But they always end up going off, or hitting rocks. Like Mads said today it's like a lottery - only, Loebgier seem to always win the lottery!
In my other random thoughts for this rally:
I think this Rally Finland is proving a few things - Mads and Thierry Neuville are very close to their first WRC wins (in Mads case, a non-technicality win). It just depends on how Loeb-like Ogier ends up being, and for how long. Meeke is still pretty fast, although I'm still not sure there aren't other guys like him without a WRC seat who are as quick or quicker. Also it's proving that Belgium and Estonia are the new Finlands, as in small countries that punch above their weight class in rallying.
Hirvonen looked like he had a chance but in a way it's a bit of a repeat of much of his time fighting Loeb - very, very close to the leader's times but not able to put together a string of stage wins to take it away.
In WRC2 I am also very impressed to see Paddon beating Lappi on his home turf. Is it the car? I don't know. I think Even and BRR would probably have very similar cars... both are quite prominent teams, aren't they? Paddon did "beat" him in NZ but the conditions were not at all comparable - home advantage, home-made ridiculously fast car, etc. I have high hopes for both of them, but I must say after what, 9 months away from S2000, Paddon is really, really good. That kind of lack of practice is very hard to overcome. Hyundai should be looking at this guy if they want to look ahead for future winners rather than using guys who've had years experience but not much potential for improvement. Like, Hanninen is fast and in a good, manufacturer car he will put in good performances, but I don't think we'd expect him to dominate Ogier or something, or get way way better than he is already. He is a known quantity.
Lastly Ketomaa had never been on my radar much but he's been so quick here. Does he just not do as well when outside Finland?
For me Neuville is the revelation of the rally (and the season) so far. It's only his second WRC Finland/season, and already so fast and so consistent. I was one of the first to believe in his talent, following him since his first event, but this really exceeds all expectations I had a few years ago. I expected him to be in WRC some day, but I didn't expect him to fight for podium places now already. :) He had a lot of talent and car control from the start. But his real talent goes beyond turning a wheel and pushing the throttle. :)
If they do as they say, should be a good day tomorrow. None of them are likely to catch Ogier but hope they try:
"The two M-Sport drivers behind Ogier - Thierry Neuville and Mads Ostberg – have vowed to fight to the finish. They are currently just 0.9s apart in second and third.
The Belgian said: "I'm going to risk everything to keep this place."
Ostberg added: "I want the position he has and I will push to take it. I haven't had any moments today, which was good – but maybe that means I've been going too slowly. I won't tomorrow."
M-Sport team principal Malcolm Wilson confirmed the pair were free to fight.
"The instruction is to continue at the same pace as today – they are in different [M-Sport teams] so [the fight] is not a concern," he said."

I don't really get it. How can they calculate the time not knowing if he would finish this stage in the first place? Ok it wasn't Meek's fault and he possibly would make good time but there is a but. What if he was fighting for the win with Ogier and the difference was about 30s? I know that whatever is decided is not fair in that situation but this is not a solution at all.Quote:

It was incumbent on the idiot standing at that corner to remove the rock from the racing line... I'm sorry it is , its question of safety surely.
Very disappointing for Hayden , he was putting in some good times and was in touch of Kubica. He is clearly faster than Lappi and the other R5 cars.
link please Carlo.
Well either way, if it was placed there maliciously or drawn there naturally, I hope people view Paddon's drive here in context. A rock in the road is not the same as "hitting a rock" the way Solberg used to do. He didn't go off or take some massive cut and cause damage, it was a rock in the middle of the driving line, and he was fighting for a podium with some very good and well-supported (in Kubica's case) opponents.Quote:

So are the S2000 guys like Lappi and Paddon fighting more powerful machines of Ketomaa (R5) and Kubica (RRC)? I am still unclear on whether R5 is faster than S2000. And RRC is meant to be faster than both right? Maybe Mirek can tell us?Quote:

For sure he could do that, and I would do it in this situation, for sure... But in some way you can't blame him for it happening (although I don't agree with letting it there, but who knows the man had not noticed it, by watching the car until it's gone and then watch where the cars come from again you can overlook it, especially when right next to you). For the reason: if there would not be anyone in the corner, it would have happened too. Rocks are thrown out everywhere all the time, it's just a matter of luck. There are many corners with no people to put rocks away, it's a matter of luck. And for sure the farther in the field, the more chance you have this (especially in the 2nd run of a stage)... By the way, from the looks of the video I think it is a marshall. ;)Quote:
