I'd argue a Rally1 without the CD unit and no ballast would be faster already.

What an argument.
" A car with more power and less weight can defeat a heavier car".
No shit Sherlock.
As a reminder the current Rally1 hybrid is by no means the best and fastest possible hybrid powertrain you can get. It is a very constrained FIA construct with the main goal of sounding and driving as similar as non hybrid as possible. Just like the last WRC was not the very best and fastest petrol car possible but something also limited by rules.
Confirmed for chile

100,00% Probability Sesks in Chile - - - - https://www.go4speed.lv/lv/news/wrc/...tes-ciles-wrc/
Sesks says it will be a challenge due to never having done the rally before and the non-hybrid car having less power for the high altitude...

Martins was out testing today.
Muddy stuff. Wonder how relevant to Chile this will be. Giving him some valuable seat time may well be what the test was intended for.
https://x.com/msesks
He will be in Rallye de Tierra Ciudad de Granada.
He will be driving Fiesta Rally2.
Also he is holding Red Bull can in a hand in a photo... :stare:
Possibly next season Puma Rally1? :lips:

castrol sponsors msport too, right? jeez, if they could get sesks and ingran on a redbull/castrol team for 2025 i'd even pay for rallytv again, honestly haha even with them not fighting for the title. put pajari in the toyota and oli on the 3rd hyundai then i'd be happy again! =P
Sesks will probably be in a Puma next year, but I can't see him doing the full season, unless Fourmaux jumps and M-Sport can't sign anyone more experienced.
Martins Sesks is 3rd overall and 2nd in Rally2:

Heikkila has been driving Skodas before Toyota. But Sesks ability to be fast and stabile with any car he gets in hands is very impressive - within a year - Skoda, Toyota, Puma 1-, Puma 1 HY and now Fiesta 2. And I hope Heikkila will get some good drive by some R2 team - he is an interesting guy.
Btw, wasn't Sesks on MRF tires in this event? I think i saw MRF logo on the car.
Yes he was driving MRF
Thierry Neuville didn't enter parc ferme. Sesks moves to the second place. Heikkila wins the rally.
what does that mean? is this rally 'open'? like, could thierry win the event on the rally1 car?
Sesks on a grey fiesta, I have not seeing it yet. Third car on the video

It isn't rare that top teams do so.. No official finish, no chance of getting the car ,,taken apart''..
Mostly because maybe they are testing some not homologated parts etc.. all stages done and DNF is faster and easier for the whole team.
Reports suggest that Neuville just didnt want to take Heikkila's glory and win on what was just a test for Chile for the i20 Rally1.
Great news. Congratiolations
Sponsors explain the attraction of Sesks:
Luke Einier, founder of M-Sport Ford sponsor SafetyCulture, admitted that he sees a natural talent in Sesks.
"There is an 'X' factor in his driving style, and his approach to the sport is very refreshing. Mārtiņš has proven that with his speed you can beat and keep up with the best in the world, so the 2025 season will be exciting," said Einiers.
Other supporters also confirm that it is Mārtiņš and Renārs' energy, enthusiasm, and ability to make an extremely technically, psychologically, and physically demanding sport accessible to fans with ease that has encouraged them to support the talented athletes.
Alongside the partners who have supported Latvia's fastest crew in the past, a new partner has joined the team – the technology company "Tet ". Its chairman of the board, Uldis Tatarčuks, points out how important it is for everyone to prove together every year, every month and every day that Latvia can.
"Mārtiņš and Renārs carry Latvia's and our name around the world, and also remind us all that impressive successes are possible if you invest energy in creating them and do it together with excellent cooperation partners. Our goal, working together, is to experience the day when Renārs and Mārtiņš stand on the podium at the "Tet Rally Latvia" WRC stage. Without pressure, everything will work out," Tatarčuks was confident.
"STORENT Latvija" director Guntis Grīnbergs said that while working with Mārtiņš Seskas last year, he had the opportunity to observe how high quality standards he applies to each project.
"There have already been striking victories on the track that have caught the world's attention. Those who have such a spark in their eyes never stop. I am sure that new records and peaks are ahead," he said.
Good to see, and he will probably mop the floor with his fellow Ford crewes. He is a natural!
I suggest to watch his driving from Rally Aluksne, you can find numbers of vids in his Insta account and youtube. Very spectacular even with Proto car. Will be interesting to see what can he do in Swe.
About mopin the floors - i am actually believing in McErlean. That guy has smth in him. May be not at once as he lacks experience, but he will grow through the year.
And Munster is 2nd seasoner - he will be better 100%.
M-Sport will look better than one might think.

Some tarmac experience would be great, too, but that's fantastic news.
Mārtiņš Sesks @MSesks
There are other rallies than WRC where to train for tarmac. And we’ll definately use them.
Have you thought about the costs of those 6 events in a modern Rally1 car? According to this article in a Polish magazine "Rally and Race" each round costs about 300 000 Euro. So for 6 rounds that would be about 1 800 000 Euro. Isn't it crazy? :)
https://rallyandrace.pl/ile-kosztuje...sa-sesksa-wrc/
So irish did raise more than 4mio for McErlean and at the end of 2025 Serderidis will spend more than 8mio for Munster.
Bull. The whole car costed close to a million with the uber expensive hybrid. Without that, it's around $500-600k.
One hybrid unit was estimated around 150.000€, so don't know where did you get that numbers for the car without that. If that was the real price of the car, believe me, there weren't so much talk about reducing costs of the cars. And more importantly, wrc wouldn't lost the Citroen at the last WRC car era, since the cars are more or less similar in aero and tech aspects (only hybrid was added). Back then there weren't many privateentries either. Why? Probably because that aero package and space chassis was so expensive to repair that no one wouldn't want to go there.
So much 2025 rumoured private entries (or interest) are more or less now due to fact, that everyone wants to showcase themselves before 2027 season, because there is great potential that new teams could enter the sport. If that thing as coming, I don't know in 2030, no one would bother spending such amount of money for couple of events, or whole season. I believe that M-Sport is the cheapest to run, although that Hyundai doesn't even have a option to give the car to anyone else rather than their official lineup.
Top young drivers can showcase themselves in WRC2 cars and much more cheaply (relatively). There's really no need to spend the crazy sums on a Rally 1 drive, even though us fans like to see them.
All motorsport progression is generally based on resources.
This is not unique for WRC, nor is it new.
Even unicorns like Max V, Lewis, Kalle came through with heavy investment....
Yeah but all of them showed something, so the investment was eligible. Investing in drivers like Stroll or here in this case with both M-Sport drivers is different case. They immediately skip many steps because of pure money.
