Can Hamilton replicate this over the race? Can Grosjean challenge for win?
Commanding pole from Hamilton. However, I'm hoping Grosjean can piece together a good weekend and win it. It is about time.
McLaren is back in form. But how is their race pace? Can they still compete for the title?
Good to see Grosjean at the front. Hope for a clean race, because as long as he can avoid trouble, he is usually fast. Is this perhaps Lotus' best chance to win a race this year? They have never started that far up on the grid so far and are usually better in race trim than in qualifying. However, if it rains, I suspect it will be more difficult for Lotus.
Alonso can be expected to accomplish his usual trick by strongly competing for top positions despite an average grid slot. So we have at least six drivers, who are very strong contenders for the podium (the whole top6 on the grid). Some of them will be disappointed. Gonna be exciting!
Incredible that this is the first time Senna has reached Q3 all season, while his team-mate has been a regular visitor there. Hülkenberg continues to outqualify di Resta. Likewise Pic seems to get in front of Glock quite often. And Sauber - again underwhelming on Saturday. Are we again going to see a storming race from them or not this time?
McLaren need to start to score points ,so Lewis needs to nail this one on the board, and Button needs to occupy Vettel and Alonso,s minds be challenging them.So hope Lewis gets away quick, and doesn't knacker his tyres too early racing Vettel in the first few laps ,and that the Renualt, can keep Vettel and Alonso at bay too.
Lewis is looking mighty here so far. He was so fast today. I think he is favourite to win, but as we have seen it is not easy this season to predict winners. We have seen drivers and cars look mighty in Quali and for whatever reason not get the win.
Mclaren have to start winning regularly and hopefully other podiums for the second car to have any chance in the championship and unfortunatley with Lewis retiring last time. I think any chance of a drivers title is almost gone. Having said that if Lewis's pace here is representative of a step forward then they could win some races still.
I think Lewis can win if he gets ahead early, but the Lotus do show good race pace and are fast here, and may well finally be able to win a race here ahead of Lewis in the dry.
However as we know there is a fair chance of rain tomorrow and we know Lewis can excell in the rain so that might protect him from the Lotus, but then Alonso and Ferrari seem to excell alot. i.e the last two Qualifying sessions.
Overll I would love to see Lewis win here and think he will.
Grosjean has really impressed me time and time again this season. He looks so much better than in 2009. However he does still make a few to many mistakes. He has the speed and car to win tomorrow on a dry day.
Seb. Well he is fast but this season who knows he has been mighty at times and lacklustre at others. So depends who turns up.
Button and Raikkonen also start in decent positions, Jenson often has slow starts so needs a decent start at 4th at least to be in the race.
Ferrari clearly dont have a fast car here, they are maybe 4th fastest here after Mclaren, Lotus and Red Bull. Alonso got about as high as he could and Felipe drove really well. I think we would all love to see him have a great race here and he actually could keep around Fernando here this weekend.
That said we have seen Alonso at times this year start here in a solid car and yet finish on the podium such is the class of the man. So don't write him off for a win if it rains.
Williams two cars in top 10 for the first time I believe. I was actually slightly dissapointed. They seemed to have the pace earlier on to get a top 3 rows start and maybe a second row start.
You never quite know with Pastor and Bruno they could finish with lots of points but equally could both be lapped. The do appear to go backwards quite often.
Webber again failed to supply the consistancy needed to win a title for me. He always drives well and has good races, but ends up battling midfield cars too often. Last weekend a great example after a win at Silverstone.
Sauber always seem slow in Quali but often are really fast in the races so hope they can move forward.
It might seem a bit simplistic but this never looked like being a Mercedes track. Slow and twisty. Their power and top speed might move them forward again in Italy and Belgium. This however could be a painful weekend.
Caterham looked reasonable today and may have a chance of mixing it with the Toro Rossos early on.
Would like to see Narain have a better race this weekend.
Looking forward to this race. Not as easy to pass as at some tracks but I am still looking forward to it.
Boy, i would hate to have to eat those words tomorrow. 60% chance of rain.... :DQuote:

I'm not too terribly worried. As usual The F2012 will be much better suited for this track relative to the field in race trim. Plus, I will be overjoyed with a 4th or a 5th. In substantial rain he runs a much higher risk of being taken out by a less skilled driver. If the race is dry I think he has a realistic shot at a podium. As you know, this guy Fred; he is a rather clever fellow.Quote:

Any updates on the weather?
Then you won't be angry if I cheer for another mistake for McLaren? I personally hope for an Alonso-Vettel duel for that third championship. However, I will be thrilled if Romain wins, as it'll be the first French winner since Olivier Panis, I think.Quote:

This means that the battle will be firmly between Hamilton and Romain Grosjean IMO. The funny thing is that Lewis seems to have a big advantage, but every time these two have battled this year, Romain overtook Hamilton. So even if dry, the race should be interesting...
Alonso told ital tv no chance for podium today...
hey, pino, no chat today? :andrea:
quitter ! almost as bad as Hamilton :hmph: :andrea: :pQuote:
