Really sad news. :(
I as one of the many I had the privilege reading his posts here in the forum and enjoy his knowledge and comments about rally and especially driving techiques.
RIP - Lepää rauhassa, Pentti.
Thank you for all the very kind words and memories, we appreciate reading them very much.
Dads first rally, his fathers pride and joy. I dont think grandad ever knew he used it for rallying. When he noticed a rev counter installed on the dashboard, Penttis reply was "..its for better fuel consumption!" Grandad like that :) .
I have to admit I didn't know him during his rallying days. But I very much enjoyed his insights on the forums and he is already greatly missed :( R.I.P
WHAT?¿?¿? I just can't believe it, I was not ready for this, not that anyone is....
Such a sad day.....
If there's a heavenly SS he'll be there right now showing his amazing skills.

Sad news indeed, condolences to his family & friends. I immediately came here after spotting the short obituary on Autosport, thinking back how nice it was to have Pentti's serene and qualified comments from a former competitor's point of view amidst all the madness that often ensues when overly-committed fans start quarrelling among themselves, often without knowing the first thing about the subject matter at hand.
Very sad day for the rallye comunity , and for this forum, because we lost also a member of it. :( :(
I will never forgot pentti's posts, and the victory of the RAC.
A legend is gone!
I was shocked and very sad to read the terrible news in wrc.com. It is a very sad day for the Rally society.
I had the privilege of meeting him once 10 years ago at his school at the old airfield. It was a day never to forget.
Amazing person, great driver , great teacher.
My deepest condolences to the family and friends
He will be missed by all of us
R.I.P. Pentti
Met him a few times allways a gentleman...
His sence of humour will be missed!
I met him at my first WRC rally in finland 2001 at the shakedown! For me as a young rally fan it was very impressive to talk to him!
RIP
Very, very sad news.
I have been entertained by Pentti for many years - in the Chevette, Starion, Galant, Sapphire and Astra etc, then chatting as a fellow spectator, and finally getting his wisdom on here. He will be missed by a hell of a lot of people.
Condolances to his family and friends
RIP Pentti - one of the fastest good guys
Rip :(
What a shock and sad news to hear. My condolences to the Airikkala family and his fans all over the world.
Terrible news :(
Damn, that was the worst shock i had in some time now....didn;t even know he was ill.....
he will be missed .... may the people he left behind remember him for the great person he was.
Very sad news to hear, words are not enough to express the loss. condolences to his family & friends.

RIP Pentti, you will be missed.
I spoke to him on here a few times and didn't realized who he was until maybe a few months later.... perhaps a year! He will be missed, and know he was on the forum here..... wondered where he went.... and now he's up there with the greats!
Niko, is that the same Mercedes he was training on ice as well?Quote:

A sad day for rally sport.

I don't often look in on the rally forum, but I had to today. Pentti was a legend on the stages and a legend on these boards. A shame his like aren't the ones running the sport...
Somewhere up there tonight, there's a Finnish gentleman drifting a cloud sideways... :)
R.I.P. Pentii, sadly missed a lovely man to chat to , both on here and on the stages , one of the legends for sure......
What terribly sad news. Pentti was one of the drivers I grew up watching in the period when I came to love the sport, and his RAC win, so well-deserved after so many years of trying, will always remain a favourite memory.
And so will this — a typically spirited, hard-trying performance in not the best car. Pentti's performance on the 1987 Manx International is, to me, one of those that proves you don't need a lot of power to be spectacular.

Due to a slight "incident" between me, Pentti and a bit of gravel, my left eye was slightly damaged many moons ago, so if anyone asks, that's what is causing it to look a bit like the odd tear tonight.
I never did get round to finishing my conversation about my VR4. Kept thinking "I must reply tomorrow" and now wont get the chance :(
Pentti... a rolemodel, childhood hero and a thoroughly nice chap. RIP
R.I.P. Pentti met you on many occassions at many events, and you always had time for a few words.I think the first time was in 78/79 in the Vauxhall days. Then in Helsinki where you were using a Mercedes 190 in Maroon as your runaround .On the dash was a silver plate with the inscription "You can tell the men from the boys by the size of their toys"
I knew you had an illness from an ex Bray resident landlord, and the fact that you were no longer posting on this site. You will be sorely missed..
Kiitos !
RIP Pentti - it was always interesting to read his insightful posts in here - been missing them for a while already.

Another true legend passes away and we are left more and more with the robots of today
Was gutted to hear the news this morning, grew up with a poster of him in the Manta above my bed. RIP to a real legend
