Hi!

I've returned home from South Urals rally, RusRC round. It took few days to take best photos and to make my mega-ural-gallery. So, it's ready. Big pity not to meet our French friends on the rally - the competition was wonderful. Far? Yes, 1700 km from Moscow to East, but for what is life if not to seek adventures? 2500 km from Saint-Petersburg to Satka I've done in 3 days alone, sleeping in my Taurus Wagon and in small motels...

Anyway 5500 km behind. I did it!

Great Alex, that you are keeping us informed about what is going on in your championship. It looked as a great adventure once again. Keep up the good work, because if not from you, we don't know too much about Russian rallying. ;)

Where excatly was the Ural rally? I'm currently in Ekaterinburg, I've been here all August and I can't believe I missed a rally so close to me?

It was not so close to E-burg (as they call the city) - in half a thousand km to the South, in the town of Bakal (you can find it on the map, it is situated in few kilometres from M5 federal road, right in the middle between Ufa and Chelyabinsk...

No matter - next round will be in Gukovo (Rostov-na-Donu region) on 5-7 of September. The best rally for spectators: deep fords through the rivers, jumps, sharp turnes... and songs playing guitar sitting near the fire drinking beer under the bottomless night sky... So, it's very nice rally, and I'm starting there on the 1st of September.

But of course the best rally to see is Novorossiysk (26-28 of September). Unbelievable rally on the Black Sea, when water is 22 and air 25... And just the next weekend after Novoross - rally Tuapse (in 200 km, also on the Black sea). Two weeks of rallying on the seaside? It's dream, and I'm going to do it reality for myself and my family and friends.

Drift. Absolutely new kind of autosports in Russia. Rather difficult, rather interesting fot rally drivers and situated not far from home. :) But - only in the summer... Timofey Kosharny took part in 4 races in Finland this year. The results aren't so good, but he's professional driver, and we hope next year... :)

So some photos from the last summer race in Saint-Petersburg - drift, held on 29.09.08. It started in the evening, it was too dark, and I had to switch ISO 3200 in my camera (because it's not good idea to take pictures in the dark with flash from 100 metres. The same and the mane of the gallery is: "ISO 3200". Welcome to Russia!

“Avtomir (Auto world) Saint-Petersburg” rally held on September 20 in Priozersk district of Leningrad region was the 14 round of the Russian Rally Cup and the seventh final round of the championship of the North-Western Federal Region. For the crew of Boris Fedotov/Alexey Orlov the race was successful: second place in the absolute, champion’s title of the North-Western Federal Region, a chance to struggle for prize places in the Cup of Russia in the last round to be held in Tuapse on October 4-5.

Oncoming familiarization in Tuapse: pro and con.

Additional regulations of “Tuapse 2008” rally: “At familiarization with the track an oncoming traffic of participants on special stages … is permitted. During the familiarization with the said stages participants have to be extra careful”.

A rally week-end next week which closes the Cup series of 2008 season and the nine rounds’ “Rolf Cup” has already caused numerous disputes in Internet which mainly referred to technical requirements for cars.However the race’s regulations contain one more unusual decision. At that opinions of sportsmen about it greatly differ.

Alex, can You tell us something more about Rally Novorossijsk? I can see that only few drivers reached finish and that there are two N3 cars on the podium! What happened to Novikov, Vertunov and others?

Once again the morning wasn't lucky for the two pre-event favorites, who had re-started today under SupeRally rules. Andrey Zhigunov showed only 5th result and finished the stage with developing problems in the transmission of his Lancer, very uncertain if he could continue driving at good pace. The crew of 5-times Russian champions lost another 6 minutes on the next stage, but failed to make it to the finish of SS9 because of a broken driveshaft. Evgeniy Novikov was planning to attack so that he could climb as high as possible to stay in touch with Zheludov in the fight for the drivers' title. Unfortunately, he first went off on SS7, but was able to return on the road and complete the stage. Surprisingly, Evgeniy's experienced Australian co-driver Dale Moscatt handed their time card away to stewards, but at the same time Evgeniy repaired the car and ordered Dale to take the card back. But while they were tackling the next special stage, a command from the HQ came that according to the FIA general prescriptions crew #3 must give the time card back at the finish of SS8. Representatives of the team applied to the HQ for explanations, and it's still uncertain whether their car will be allowed to continue.

The only unpleasant accident happened on SS7, when four teenagers on a quadrocycle found the way to avoid marshals and appear on the route. Then they moved towards the coming car of German Formanyuk. The experienced driver couldn't avoid the accident and hit the quadrocycle. The teenagers were slightly injured, this proving a warning for spectators, that the safety rules must be strictly obeyed. After the incident the stage was run as a road section. "

Imo the reason was the underestimation of the route by most of the pack N group is still production class no matter what the cost is

Yes, it is too early to officially name Alexander Zheludov and Irina Kolomeitseva the Russian rally champions of 2008. But there are no doubts that the international Russian-Ukrainian crew has already won the top national title in the rally season of 2008 …

Russian Rally Championship. Final – “Avto-Alliance Velikiye Luki 2008” rally.

Rallies in Pskov region are well known to sportsmen in Russia for their wide gravel roads. Here rounds of the Cup, of the Championship and of the Clubs’ rally cup are being held. For a long time local roads have been known as a “test for nerves”. The winner here is a pilot who doesn’t reduce speed and doesn’t make mistakes at crazy tempo.

Alena Mar’ina: «We learn to make rallies of the international level».

Lately we witness the development of motor sport in Russia. Autodromes are being built, a round of the world circular series WTCC is to be held in Russia by 2010. Recently there was held the round of the Russian Rally Championship which received the status of a race-candidate to the WRC (Novorossiisk rally Russia 2008).

We had a chance to talk to one of persons who was directly engaged in organization of the competition – Alena Mar’ina.

Irina Kolomeytseva: «We need a team victory!»

Because of the overlapping dates of the next stage of Russian and Ukrainian rally championships crew of Alexander Zheludov and Irina Kolomeytseva faced the problem: which race to choose? On the one hand, the crew early wins Russian drivers’ championship, so they could miss the final stage in Russia's Pskov region. On the other – “Moscow-Odessa” crew has nothing to loose in Ukrainian championship, so the price of rally «Chernivtsi-600» was very low too.

Swedish “star” in the Russian rally.

A new full-gear crew from Sweden - Patric Flodin/Goran Bergsten - will appear in the URT team in the “Velikiye Luki 2008” rally. In spite of his young age the pilot has already got into the B List of the FIA priority after he had won rallies in Portugal, Finland and Norway in PC WRC qualification in 2007. In 2006 Patric Flodin won the title of the champion of Sweden in the N group.

XII RallyRUS international rally photo contest 2008!

So, the great rally season of 2008 is over. Engines stopped roaring on tracks of national championship, prize places are drawn, winners and champions’ names became known. The time has come for a final rally photo contest, for recollection of the most thrilling moments of races.

The time to select the best of those who stand, sit or lie along special stages under hail of stones and dust from cars rushing by, under rain, freezing in cold and melting in hot weather waiting for hours just to take an instant photo. So, dear rally photographers: here is your hour of triumph!

We invite to our photo contest not only Russian authors but foreign photographers as well. In any case it has already become a good tradition – in the tenth photo contest authors from 8 countries had shown their best works!
