The Origns of Oval Track Racing....

I think it is correct to say that Brooklands was the first purpose-built, banked, paved, racing track for cars. I have read somewhere that it's construction inspired the construction of Indianapolis
To be pedantic, as it's D-shaped it isn't an oval anyway ;)

Whatever its "firsts", Brooklands was also irrelevant outside Britain, whether it was an oval or D-shaped.

As inelequently as Bob Riebe might bluntly state it, it still remains difficult to build a case for any place except the United States.
