Yes, it essentially seems to be a larger version of the iPhone. But it will soon be much more powerful.

What I look forward to for whenever I by the iPad on the generation that is going to have all the goodies that they know that they can fill it up with - is that I will be able to read the BIG letters on the screen. :)

My eyes are getting to be a liability without my reading glasses and every time I want to read something on my iPhone I have to have my glasses on (If I can locate them).

I will of course always have my phone in my pocket as I travel but if I can also have an iPad to work and play with, I will also do so. - and again - this is just me - in this forun of ours it's tough to say something that we like without someone else jumping on our throat telling us what their preference is and at the same time remind us that we are a dork to think as we do :p :

*this of course is not pointed at you Mark :)

Again, to each his own - and I have managed to play with one and I loved it. I have also seen clients use them in both practical and fun ways.
They were happy - and as sales will testify , many more people are happy with their iPads too.

If it works for you then, great!
I think you have two sides of things here. You've got phones at one end and fully blown computers (PC's / Macs et al) at the other.

Now the iPad is an enlarged phone. Personally I think it would have been better if it had been a shrunken laptop instead, running full OS X.

The only apple product I own is an iphone and I don't have any great desire to expand my collection of apple products. Both me and the other half both have iphones so we must have purchased more than 100 free and paid for apps since we've had them. We were looking on itunes out of curiosity the other day and only 5 of the apps we have purchased are currently compatible with the ipad. Personally, I think the apps make the iphone. If the ipad is an oversized iphone with no apps I don't quite know why you'd rush out to buy one. If I was going to buy one I think I'd at least wait until you can get some decent apps for it. :s :)

Asus eeePC T91MT vs iPad

And if you know what you're doing you can install a full Mac OS X to the eeePC and triple boot it with Windows and Linux.

The iPad would be useful for padding people in the butt and as padding for your butt.
