Zakantha is the Carthaginian name of the main town a couple of km away from where I am at the moment (see location ;) ). Hannibal apparently took it from the iberian natives after a long siege. The iberians had hoped for help from Rome, but Rome couldn't be arsed... stage set for the second punic war.
Zakantha -> Saguntum -> Sagunto (-> Sagunt), about 30 km north of Valencia, or 300 north of Cartagena :D

there is a greek island, famous in Homer, with a very similar name and a name still in use today (Zakanthos--which is what I thought the correct answer would be), unlike Zakantha, which is now really Sagunto

I went on holiday to Portugal a year ago and I stayed in one city. In this one city on the remains of an old town wall it said "Aqui nasceu Portugal" or "Portugal was born here" and is where Portuguese independence was claimed. What's the name of the city?
